Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andy Rodgers (ranked 1050 p4p, 157 weight class) and The Sandman (ranked 1756 p4p, 250 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andy Rodgers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 14 - 1, fighting out of New York, The Sandman!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sandman works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Rodgers misses with a double jab.
Sandman shoots in for a takedown but Rodgers shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Sandman changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rodgers tries to avoid it but Sandman manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rodgers to the ground. Rodgers escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Rodgers scores with a hook to the body. Sandman takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Sandman is trying hard to land a takedown here. Rodgers sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Andy Rodgers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of The Sandman.

and Sandman counters with a nice double leg into guard.
We've been hearing good reports from Rodgers's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Sandman throws an elbow that misses. Rodgers uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Sandman's guard. Nice move by Rodgers!


Sandman is looking for a triangle here but Rodgers uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sandman looks to move to half guard but instead Rodgers has passed into mount! Damn!

Rodgers stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Sandman throws a jab but it's blocked by Rodgers.

and Sandman counters with a shoot takedown. Rodgers fights it but they end up in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sandman is pushing down on Rodgers's leg trying to pass to half guard. Rodgers is fighting to maintain full guard but Sandman has managed to sneak the leg through.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sandman misses with a head shot. Rodgers uses the momentum to regain guard.

Sandman wants to pass the guard but Rodgers is keeping the position.
Rodgers will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Sandman drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rodgers manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Sandman has Rodgers in his guard.

Sandman gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Sandman wants to get back to full guard but Rodgers has mounted him!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andy Rodgers dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Sandman darts in looking for a takedown but Rodgers gets double underhooks and turns Sandman into the cage.

Rodgers looks to throw the jab but Sandman is out of range.
Rodgers moves into range and connects with a jab.
Sandman uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Rodgers.
The crowd cheers as Rodgers lands an impressive looking overhand right. Sandman doesn't seem phased though.
Rodgers scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Sandman will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rodgers just misses with a punch to the body.

and Sandman decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rodgers's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sandman throws a big right hand that misses.
Rodgers is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sandman is controlling him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sandman is looking to work some ground and pound but Rodgers has wrist control.
Rodgers preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Rodgers utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sandman throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Rodgers got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sandman has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rodgers has managed to get both his arms back between Sandman's legs - danger averted.

Sandman is looking to cinch up a triangle. Rodgers throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Sandman's body to avoid the submission. Sandman has instead reached around Rodgers's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Sandman arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). The Sandman!
Our winner, The Sandman, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
