PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Martin Anvil (ranked 3328 p4p, 309 weight class) and Leonard Owusu (ranked 5707 p4p, 483 weight class). Leonard Owusu acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Martin Anvil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Leonard Owusu!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Owusu lands with a straight right. Anvil didn't see that one coming.
Owusu keeps the fight on the outside.
Owusu throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Anvil swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Anvil takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Owusu misses with a head kick.
Anvil walks into a stiff left hand from Owusu.
Anvil with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Owusu to score with a decent uppercut.
Owusu connects with a solid leg kick.
Owusu misses with a head kick.
Anvil shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Owusu as he jumps to the side.
Anvil avoids the body shot from Owusu.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Owusu, as that shot connected.
A looping hook to the body misses from Anvil. Owusu does a little dance to reset his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Anvil rushes Owusu and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Owusu lands with a light punch inside.
Anvil wants to stall.
Owusu stalling.
Anvil throws a head punch that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Anvil is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Owusu is defending well for now.

Anvil is rocked!


It looks like Martin Anvil has been cut.
Owusu lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Oh Anvil is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Owusu struggles to land a body shot inside as Anvil controls his hands.

Anvil misses with a body punch.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.

Anvil fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Anvil seems to have got his legs back now.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Owusu creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Owusu lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Anvil misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Anvil tries to work over Owusu's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Owusu gets control of Anvil's arms and successfully pulls guard. Owusu will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Owusu wants to stand but Anvil is controlling the position.
Owusu seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Owusu looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Anvil trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Owusu working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Anvil.
Owusu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Anvil. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Owusu tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Anvil is pushing down on Owusu's leg trying to pass to half guard. Owusu is fighting to maintain full guard but Anvil has managed to sneak the leg through.

Anvil seems to be working for a kimura but Owusu defends the submission attempt.
Anvil is looking to take a break and control but Owusu is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Anvil thows a huge punch but Owusu dodges it nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Owusu is trying to escape back to his feet but Anvil uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Anvil looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Owusu is looking to reverse the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Anvil grinds an elbow into Owusu's temple.

Anvil is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Owusu knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Owusu is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Owusu has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Owusu can't do much from the bottom here.
Owusu tries to improve position but can't.
Anvil wants to control but Owusu is keeping him busy.
Owusu on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Anvil is looking to take a break and control but Owusu is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Anvil tries to score with some ground and pound. Owusu controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Anvil cracks Owusu with a big elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Owusu lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Anvil at a distance.
Owusu throws a body shot but no joy.
Owusu throws a half hearted mid kick.
Anvil attempts a counter takedown but Owusu avoids it well and moves away.
Leonard Owusu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Owusu moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Anvil takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

so Anvil counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Anvil trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Owusu has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Owusu preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Anvil seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Owusu can do anything to dispel that myth.

Anvil is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Owusu is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Anvil content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Owusu avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Anvil pushes down on Owusu's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Anvil is nestled in close to Owusu, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Anvil looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Anvil not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Anvil is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Anvil is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Owusu!

Owusu takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Anvil pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.


Owusu is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
BOOM! Anvil connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Owusu is still in real trouble! Can Anvil finish him?
Anvil unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Owusu wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Anvil celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Martin Anvil!
