PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Asa Franco (ranked 8830 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shigeru Teremoto (ranked 6593 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Asa Franco!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shigeru Teremoto!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Teremoto stuffs the takedown attempt from Franco. Franco gets slowly back to his feet.
Teremoto appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

Teremoto has Franco up against the cage in a clinch.
Teremoto is trying to pull guard but Franco has him pressed against the cage.
Franco wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Teremoto has him pressed against the cage.
Teremoto is pushing Franco up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Teremoto is working for takedown but Franco is calmly controlling the position for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Teremoto lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.


It looks like Asa Franco has been cut.

Franco's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Teremoto throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Franco tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Teremoto is in Franco's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Teremoto is in close to Franco's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Teremoto slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Teremoto works over Franco with some ground and pound from guard.
Teremoto engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Teremoto scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Franco being controlled here, momentarily.
Franco looking to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Franco looking for a sweep. Not yet Franco, not yet.
Teremoto engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Teremoto lands a couple of digs.
Franco could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Franco has Teremoto pulled in close to control his posture.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Teremoto stays in close to Franco's body and controls the position.
Teremoto is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Teremoto content to stall in guard here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Teremoto stands up from Franco's guard - Teremoto perhaps looking for a knockout.

Teremoto closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Franco to the mat! Franco manages to get full guard.
Teremoto controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Teremoto is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Franco is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Franco has escaped and now he's on top!

Franco wants to control from the top but Teremoto keeps moving.
Teremoto has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Teremoto looking for a sweep. Not yet Teremoto, not yet.
Teremoto wants to stand and escape but Franco is having none of it.
Teremoto doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Franco thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Teremoto avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Teremoto looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Teremoto wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shigeru Teremoto dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Asa Franco's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Teremoto fails with a takedown attempt.

Teremoto bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Teremoto is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Teremoto creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.


Asa Franco's cut is getting worse.
Teremoto is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Franco will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Franco is looking to regain half guard here but Teremoto keeps moving and retains side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Teremoto is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Teremoto tries to move into full mount but can't pass Franco's legs.
Franco is trying to improve his position.
Teremoto staying calm.
Franco is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
An elbow from Teremoto crashes against the mat.
Franco struggling a bit here.

Teremoto looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Franco gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Teremoto controlling from mount.
Franco might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Jeez, Asa Franco's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Asa Franco's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Shigeru Teremoto!
