Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alejandro Booker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hugo Girard!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Booker has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


It looks like Alejandro Booker has been cut.

Booker has Girard up against the cage in a clinch.
Booker tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Girard avoids it.
Booker is looking to break free of the clinch but Girard has double underhooks.

Girard has hold of one of Booker's legs. Booker is fighting the takedown attempt but Girard gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Girard wants to control from the top but Booker keeps moving.
Girard trying to move into half guard but instead Booker has managed to sweep!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Girard can do anything to dispel that myth.
Booker not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Booker throwing strikes but missing.
Booker sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Booker has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Girard wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Booker manages to pass to side control.
Girard tries to get to full guard but Booker has control of the leg.

Booker is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Girard is trying to maintain the position but Booker is very close to passing his half guard.
Booker lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Booker is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Girard trying to control but Booker postures up.
Booker looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Girard is looking to get back to full guard here but Booker has managed to pass to side control instead.
Booker just content to control the position.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Booker.
Girard wants to control but Booker postures up.
Girard tries to buck Booker off but Booker is having none of it.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Booker is staying tight to Girard's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Booker drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

That was a close round but I would say that Alejandro Booker will probably get the nod.

Booker tries to clinch up but Girard circles away and keeps his distance.
Girard changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Nice sprawl there from Booker as Girard shoots in.
Girard fails to land the takedown.
Booker tries to clinch but Girard is having none of it.
Booker sets himself, and Girard steps forward looking for the clinch! Booker avoids it this time.
Hugo Girard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Booker avoids the head kick by Girard.

Girard shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Booker manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Booker uses the cage to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Booker is trying to pull guard but Girard has him pressed against the cage.
Booker jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Girard walks away with a smile on his face. Booker gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Booker tries to clinch up but Girard circles away and keeps his distance.

and Booker counters with a series of strikes. Girard will be more careful next time no doubt.

Booker tries to close the distance and clinch but Girard swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Booker ducks right into an uppercut from Girard.

Girard lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Girard has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Booker works to full guard.

Girard looking to sit in guard and control but Booker gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Booker is stalling in the full guard.
Booker continues to hold on tight.
Girard is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Booker is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Booker tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Girard paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Girard turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Girard stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Booker tries to close the distance and clinch but Girard swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Booker sets himself, and Girard steps forward looking for the clinch! Booker avoids it this time.
Girard changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Booker tries to avoid it but Girard manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Booker to the ground. Booker escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Girard gets tackled into the cage by Booker. Booker maintains the clinch.
Booker blocks an elbow strike from Girard.

Girard pulls guard effortlessly.
Booker controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Girard is pulling down on Booker's head. It's preventing any offense from Booker, at least for the moment.
Booker postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Girard wants to improve his position but instead Booker has moved into half guard.
Booker content to control rather than advance.
Booker scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Booker slows the pace down in half guard.
Booker wants to stand up but Girard has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Girard tries to get to full guard but Booker has control of the leg.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Girard is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Booker scores with a couple of nice shots.
Booker perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Girard shoots in looking for a takedown but Booker manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Girard's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Alejandro Booker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hugo Girard.
Girard misses with a head kick.
Girard takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Girard changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Booker tries to avoid it but Girard manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Booker to the ground. Booker escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Booker has closed the distance and engaged Girard in a clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Booker is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Girard is defending well.
Booker is working for takedown but Girard is calmly controlling the position for now.
Hugo Girard has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Alejandro Booker is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Alejandro Booker showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Booker, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
