Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jan Paul Valens (ranked 841 p4p, 138 weight class) and Benson Whyte (ranked 622 p4p, 107 weight class). Whyte has chosen Bob Marley - Jammin as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Benson Whyte!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Paul Aken and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valens throws a body shot but no joy.
Good leg kick by Whyte there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Valens looks to score with a jab to the body but Whyte is just out of range.

Valens throws a jab when Whyte was well out of range.
Whyte only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Valens just misses with a punch to the body.

Valens dives in and scores a takedown into Whyte's guard.

Whyte pushes Valens off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Whyte takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Whyte throws a body punch but Valens moves out of range.
Valens bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Whyte dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Valens lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

We've been hearing reports that Valens has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Whyte! But no joy.

Benson Whyte is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Whyte throws a lazy right hand but Valens sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Valens moves out of range of the body kick from Whyte.

Valens tried to score with a low kick but Whyte checks it.
Whyte only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Valens finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Whyte fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Whyte throws a leg kick which misses Valens's front leg but catches the back leg as Valens tries to avoid it.
Nice sprawl there from Whyte as Valens shoots in.
Valens displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Whyte throws out the jab.
Valens attempts a counter takedown but Whyte avoids it well and moves away.
Whyte bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Valens's head backwards.
A slow jab from Whyte misses its intended target.
Whyte keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Valens misses the body punch
and Whyte counters with a three punch combo that has Valens backing up. Valens nods at Whyte to acknowledge the strikes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Valens lunges at Whyte with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Whyte's hand.
Valens rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Whyte cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Valens looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Whyte is fending him off so far but Valens persists. Nope, Whyte circles away and we're back to standing.

Whyte throws out a counter right but Valens avoids it with no problem.
Valens misses with a lunging right hand
and Whyte counters with a good low kick that Valens was not able to check.
Whyte jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Whyte keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Valens thuds his right hand into Whyte's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Whyte ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Valens moves away.
Valens scores with a punch to the head.
Whyte jabs Valens right on the nose. Valens blinks but takes it well.
Whyte listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Whyte throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Valens swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
A decent looking cross lands there for Valens.
Whyte throws a hook but Valens blocks it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Valens fails to land the takedown.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Whyte sends Valens crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Whyte is motioning to the referee to let Valens up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!


Valens is rocked!
Valens ducks into an uppercut from Whyte and that's knocked him out cold! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Benson Whyte!
