PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hip Hop (ranked 6500 p4p, 629 weight class) and Machiavelli RestInPiece (ranked 6493 p4p, 628 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Hip Hop!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Machiavelli RestInPiece!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Wagner Zegers and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
RestInPiece fails in his attempt to clinch.

Hop gets a clinch.
RestInPiece is trying to maintain a safe position but Hop gets an underhook and turns RestInPiece into the cage.
RestInPiece is trying to pull guard but Hop has him pressed against the cage.
Hop tries to score a body lock takedown but RestInPiece shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Hop controlling the action here for a moment.
Hop is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Hop wants to get back to striking at distance but RestInPiece won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hop wanted to stand there but RestInPiece had control of the position.
RestInPiece has control of Hop's left arm, preventing Hop from doing any damage.
Hop passes RestInPiece's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Hop postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for RestInPiece to stand up.

Hop dives in for a single leg takedown but RestInPiece sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
RestInPiece shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hop sprawls well. Hop wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. RestInPiece gets slowly back to his feet.
RestInPiece is looking to clinch but Hop is avoiding it.
RestInPiece dives in and grabs Hop's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hop pushes down on RestInPiece's head and hops out.
Hop takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Hop wants to take the fight to the mat but RestInPiece manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Hop avoids the elbow strike from RestInPiece, against the cage.

Hop jumps guard and drags RestInPiece to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
RestInPiece is looking to stand up but Hop won't let him.

RestInPiece stops Hop from standing up.
Hop seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
RestInPiece must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Hop has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but RestInPiece can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Hop tries to land a sweep but no joy.

RestInPiece trying to control the position from guard on top but Hop is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hop is on top in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hop wanted to stand there but RestInPiece had control of the position.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hop seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down RestInPiece for as long as he can get away with.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


RestInPiece leaves Hop with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Hop throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Hop shoots for a takedown but RestInPiece saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Hop fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Hop backing away here, and RestInPiece unleashes a leg kick that just misses.

Hop sets himself, and RestInPiece steps forward looking for the clinch! Hop avoids it this time.

No luck for Hop with that takedown attempt.
RestInPiece tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hop defends well and RestInPiece ends up having to push Hop into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Hop sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

RestInPiece's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

RestInPiece drives through and clinches with Hop against the cage.

RestInPiece closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Hop shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. RestInPiece defends it nicely.
Hop avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
RestInPiece lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by RestInPiece.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Hop changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. RestInPiece tries to avoid it but Hop manages to keep hold of a leg and drag RestInPiece to the ground. RestInPiece escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Hop throws a sloppy head kick and RestInPiece moves out of range easily.

Hop tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but RestInPiece defends well and Hop ends up having to push RestInPiece into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Hop shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has RestInPiece pinned against the cage. RestInPiece gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hop throws a nice looking combination but RestInPiece bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Hop is defended easily by RestInPiece.

Hop feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Hop drops back looking for a leg! RestInPiece is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and RestInPiece manages to kick Hop off! Hop jumps back into RestInPiece's guard.

Hop winds up and cracks RestInPiece with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
RestInPiece wants to improve his position but Hop is controlling well.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hop in particular looking to stall.
Hop thows a huge punch but RestInPiece dodges it nicely.
Hop passes the guard and advances to mount!
Hop lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

RestInPiece is trying desperately to improve position.

Hop stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

RestInPiece closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hop's guard.
Hop is controlling RestInPiece's posture.
RestInPiece wants to control from the top but Hop keeps moving.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hop is on top in guard.

RestInPiece really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hop. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
