Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Stefan Gashi (ranked 8880 p4p, 747 weight class) and Kevin Murphy (ranked 8276 p4p, 723 weight class). Stefan Gashi could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Kevin Murphy 's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kevin Murphy !
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Anthony Taglia and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Murphy throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Gashi tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Murphy is in Gashi's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gashi drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Murphy manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gashi has Murphy in his guard.

Gashi has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Murphy can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Murphy closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Murphy wants to pass to mount but Gashi is defending the position.

Murphy looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Murphy lands a nice short elbow.

Murphy moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Gashi.

Murphy wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gashi, who protects the arm well.

Murphy tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Murphy has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Gashi shoots in but Murphy avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Murphy throws a series of punches but Gashi avoids them all with ease.

Gashi is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Murphy .
Murphy lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Murphy thuds his right hand into Gashi's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Murphy feints and then cracks Gashi's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Gashi down.

Gashi is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Murphy pulls his head out easily.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gashi is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Murphy scores with a couple of nice shots.

Murphy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gashi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gashi has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Murphy is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gashi.

Well Murphy has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
