TWGC 18 (170lbs, D4): Montreal Qualifier - Round 2 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a welterweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Mario Ukkus (ranked 7255 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Kim (ranked 5926 p4p, 521 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 0 losses; Mario Ukkus! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 0 losses; Daniel Kim!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Ian Loll.


The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.
Ukkus shoots in looking for a takedown but Kim manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ukkus's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Ukkus is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ukkus is trying to escape the position but Kim is controlling the position.
It looks like Kim might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Ukkus tries to buck Kim off but Kim is having none of it.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee asks Kim politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Kim prefers to stall for the moment though.

Kim is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ukkus knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Ukkus might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Kim is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Ukkus's shoulder. That is not cool.

Ukkus is trying to control Kim's posture but Kim avoids it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kim is looking for a kimura but Ukkus is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kim to get the leverage.

Ukkus is looking for a triangle but Kim pushes his legs off easily.

Kim trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Ukkus manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Kim throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Ukkus escapes and throws Kim's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Ukkus is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kim is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Kim tries to buck Ukkus off but Ukkus is having none of it.
Kim trying to control but Ukkus flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!

Kim is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Ukkus gets his way!

Ukkus is looking for a rear naked choke here but Kim reverses the position brilliantly into Ukkus's guard!

Ukkus is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Kim in particular looking to stall.

Kim doesn't have the hooks in and Ukkus manages to turn into his guard.
