Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brandon Powers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phill Brooks!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powers shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Brooks pinned against the cage. Brooks gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
No joy there for Powers, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Powers avoids the head kick by Brooks.
Powers fails with a takedown attempt.
Despite the aggression on Brooks's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Brooks tries a head kick but it misses.
Powers shoots in but no luck this time.

Brooks leaves Powers with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Brooks let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Powers shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Brooks defends it nicely.

Powers with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Brooks to score with a decent uppercut.
Brooks looks to land a left hand but Powers moved out of range nicely.
Brooks fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Brooks bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Powers wants to control but Brooks postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Powers sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Powers is positioning himself well to prevent Brooks advancing to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phill Brooks dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Powers is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Brooks.

A nice side step and Brooks releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Brooks has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Powers fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Brooks checks it well.

Brooks closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Powers's guard.
Brooks trying to control the position from guard on top but Powers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Powers throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Powers looking for a sweep. Not yet Powers, not yet.
Powers is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Brooks is controlling him.

Brooks throws a big right hand that misses.

Powers striking off his back but it's not causing Brooks any problems.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brooks has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Powers is proving hard to escape from.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Brandon Powers is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Brooks counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Brooks rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Powers moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Powers shoots in for a takedown but Brooks shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
As Powers backs off Brooks throws a huge counter combo but Powers manages to avoid it all.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Brooks has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Powers after a bit of a struggle.
Powers wants to take the fight to the mat but Brooks manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Phill Brooks showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Powers tries to close the distance and clinch but Brooks swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Powers bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Brooks's head.
Brooks swats away the attempt to clinch by Powers.

Brooks drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Powers is striking off his back. Brooks thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
Powers regains full guard. Nicely done.
Brooks must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Powers manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Brooks manages to get himself to full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Powers seems to be working for a kimura but Brooks defends the submission attempt.
