The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz avoids a punch combination nicely.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Rydeland walks away with a smile on his face. Diaz gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Dick Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Diaz scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Rydeland lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

As Diaz tries to get set, Rydeland tries to push him back and clinch up but Diaz manages to avoid the attempt.

Diaz avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Diaz stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Rydeland enables Diaz to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Rydeland manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Diaz is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Rydeland has his hands clasped together but Diaz extends and breaks Rydeland's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Diaz.
