PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between DJ Boom (ranked 743 p4p, 73 weight class) and Lin Shui (ranked 2855 p4p, 288 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that DJ Boom has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily DJ Boom seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, DJ Boom!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lin Shui!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Steve Montenegro and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boom walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Shui misses with a body shot.
Boom will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Shui blocks a jab.
Shui appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Boom fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Shui on the side of the head.

Shui looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Boom looking to control but Shui passes into half guard.
Boom wants to control the action here but instead Shui manages to pass to full mount!
Shui controlling his opponent.
Boom tries to hold on but Shui postures up.
Shui controlling the pace for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A nice elbow there by Shui.
Boom tries to reverse the position but Shui maintains control.
Shui wants to control the pace but Boom is squirming around nicely.
Boom can't escape the position.
Shui controlling from mount.
Boom tries to lock up and control but Shui gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Poor strikes thrown by Shui there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Shui avoids the attempt from Boom to control.
Boom is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Shui is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Shui lands a big elbow.
Shui tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Shui trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Boom is desperately trying to improve his position but Shui has a good base and remains in mount.
Boom is working hard here to advance position.
Boom regains half guard.
Shui trying to control the pace.
Shui working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Shui thows a huge punch but Boom dodges it nicely.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Shui keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Boom tries to roll over but Shui keeps him under control.
Shui frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Boom regains half guard.
Shui has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Boom on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Boom has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Shui is working away from the top position though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Shui is looking to take a break and control but Boom is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lin Shui dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Ouch! a nice leg kick from Shui, right into the meat.
Boom throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Shui drops his hands momentarily and Boom takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Boom on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Shui is looking to chop away at Boom's legs.
Boom waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Shui.
Shui has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Shui takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Boom lands with a cross.
Boom swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Shui has a takedown stuffed.
Boom throws a lazy right hand but Shui sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Shui throws a leg kick that misses.
Boom throws a hook but Shui blocks it.
Shui misses with a hook
and Boom counters with a nice uppercut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Shui ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Boom throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Shui is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Boom looks for the body kick but Shui saw that one coming.
Shui takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Shui fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Boom, pushing him back against the cage.
Shui keeps control of Boom as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

A nice glancing elbow lands by Shui.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Shui.
Boom misses with some punches.
Shui blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Boom tries to work over Shui's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Boom is trying to break the clinch but Shui is controlling him.
Boom can't find room to land a body shot as Shui controls the action.
Shui lands a nice elbow from the clinch.


It looks like DJ Boom has been cut.
Shui is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Shui lands with a right to the head.
Shui doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Shui lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Boom misses with some punches.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Shui is working Boom over against the cage.
Boom misses with a hook to the ribs.
Boom blocks the elbow strike.
Nice elbow from Shui.

Boom breaks the clinch.
Shui takes one on the button.
Boom throws a body shot but no joy.
Shui has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Shui throws a half hearted mid kick.

Boom's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Boom duly obliges.
Shui scores with a kick to the body.
Boom works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Shui fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Boom tries to bum rush Shui with a series of wild strikes but Shui uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Shui jabs Boom to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Boom looks for the body kick but Shui saw that one coming.
Shui comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Shui scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
A big right from Boom misses.
Shui throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Boom connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Shui thumps Boom with a low kick.
We've been told by Boom's head coaches at The Beast that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Shui scores with a nice head shot.
Shui stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Shui throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Boom throwing a counter right hand but Shui manages to avoid it.
Shui connects with a leg kick. Boom looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Shui lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Boom just misses with a punch to the body.
Boom throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

A shot to the body from Shui misses
and Boom counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Shui throws a leg kick which misses Boom's front leg but catches the back leg as Boom tries to avoid it.
Boom throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Boom staying out of range there.
Shui throws a jab when Boom was well out of range.
Boom is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Shui.
Shui walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.


Shui is rocked!
Boom throws an uppercut from hell that sends Shui clean off his feet! He's out cold! Boom stands back and admires his work as he thinks about that KO of the night award that is surely being wrapped up for him back stage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). DJ Boom!
During a confident post fight interview, DJ Boom thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
