Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rui Zao (ranked 6478 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Jones (ranked 5972 p4p, 701 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rui Zao!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Jones!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Joseph Jones and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones has a takedown stuffed.
Zao fails to land the takedown.
Zao fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Jones on the side of the head.

Jones dives in and scores a takedown into Zao's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Zao is looking to get back to full guard here but Jones has managed to pass to side control instead.

Zao seems a little lost for a moment, as Jones dominates the positioning.

Zao tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.

Jones is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Zao to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Zao shrugs it off.
Jones has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Jones wants to finish this one by submission but Zao is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Jones.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Zao tries to hold on but Jones pushes him away.

Let's hope that Jones has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Zao is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jones avoids the attempt from Zao to control.

What can Zao do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

That's time! Zao's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Jones looks to land a combination but Zao avoids it well.
Zao scores with a nice strike.

Jones shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Zao's guard.

Jones got a little sloppy there for a moment and Zao has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jones has managed to get both his arms back between Zao's legs - danger averted.

Zao wants to hold on but Jones pushes him away.

Zao is trying desperately to improve position.

Zao is trying to stand up.
Jones lands a nice shot to the head.
Jones looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Jones.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jones working for a submission but Zao is keeping him at bay.
Jones lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Zao hang on?
Jones is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Zao can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The referee warns Zao that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Jones takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Jones avoids the attempt from Zao to control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Jon Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Zao gets caught napping as Jones dives in and scores a takedown. Zao manages to retain guard.

Jones is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Jones wants to get up but he can't break Zao's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Jones's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Zao wants to clinch up but Jones keeps it at a distance.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Jones has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Zao is trying to keep an underhook but Jones manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Jones looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Jones seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

More stalling from Jones.
Jones is looking to advance position but Zao won't allow it.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Zao wants to get back to full guard.
Jones seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Zao throws a body punch but Jones moves out of range.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Jones.
Zao tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

Rui Zao showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Jones has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
