PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dennis Nilsen (ranked 1627 p4p, 219 weight class) and Tyson Brown (ranked 2643 p4p, 316 weight class). Tyson Brown told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dennis Nilsen!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tyson Brown!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Russell Pearce and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nilsen closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Brown goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Brown's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Brown misses with a kick to the body.
An attempted straight right counter from Nilsen misses the target.
Nilsen tries to clinch there but Brown circles away.
Nilsen misses with a lunging right hand
and Brown counters with a one-two to the body.
Nilsen scores with the left hand. Brown knows he should have avoided that one.


It looks like Tyson Brown has been cut.
Nilsen tries to clinch there but Brown circles away.
Nilsen is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nilsen shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Brown's guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Nilsen counters with a single leg into guard. Brown didn't expect that.
Nilsen is pushing down on Brown's leg trying to pass to half guard. Brown is fighting to maintain full guard but Nilsen has managed to sneak the leg through.
Brown won't allow Nilsen to pass to mount.

Nilsen is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Brown defends it well.
Brown has his hands clasped together around Nilsen's back. He's all about the action.
Nilsen is trying to control the action in half guard but Brown is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Brown wants to get back to full guard.
Brown is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Nilsen's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Nilsen's back!

I really don't envy Nilsen right now.
Brown really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Nilsen.

Brown is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Nilsen has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Brown's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nilsen is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Brown gets his way!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dennis Nilsen will probably get the nod.

Nilsen tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Brown defends well and Nilsen ends up having to push Brown into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Nilsen connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Brown moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Nilsen jabs Brown right on the nose. Brown blinks but takes it well.
Nilsen scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

Nilsen forces Brown back against the cage and clinches.
Nilsen has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Brown is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dennis Nilsen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Brown breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Brown stuffs the takedown.
Nilsen tries to close the distance and clinch but Brown swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Dennis Nilsen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nilsen lands a nice shot that snaps Brown's head back.

Nilsen closes the distance and clinches.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Brown pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Nilsen ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Brown throws a series of strikes that have Nilsen backpedaling.

Brown tries to work over Nilsen's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Nilsen is working for takedown but Brown is calmly controlling the position for now.

Nilsen is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Brown to keep the fight standing.
Brown misses with some punches.
Nilsen is looking for a takedown.
Brown is trying to break the clinch but Nilsen is controlling him.

Nilsen keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Brown's efforts to push away.

Brown breaks the clinch.
Nilsen lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Brown at a distance.
Brown lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Nilsen backs up against the cage.
Nilsen looks to land a combination but Brown avoids it well.
Brown looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Brown lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.


Nilsen is rocked!

and Brown counters with a nice body shot.
Oh Nilsen is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Nilsen gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Brown gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:12 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tyson Brown!

In his post fight interview, Tyson Brown gave a big smile as he said 'A Morphological Examination of Sympatric Cisco Forms in Four Lakes with Specific Reference to the Occurrence of Shortjaw Cisco ( Coregonus Zenithicus) in Manitoba...'.
