PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bruno Castano (ranked 5793 p4p, 478 weight class) and Ambu Abumbu (ranked 7009 p4p, 514 weight class). Castano comes to the cage accompanied by Unstoppable. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bruno Castano!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ambu Abumbu!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Daniel Franklin and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Castano has taken the fight to the clinch.
Our sources have told us that Castano has been working on his elbows in the gym.
Castano tries for a takedown. No joy.
Abumbu tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Castano smiles and moves away.
Castano shoots in for a double leg but Abumbu sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Castano fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bruno Castano. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Castano shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Abumbu manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Abumbu is adopting a defensive guard.
Abumbu wants to sweep but no luck.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Castano drops back looking for a leg! Abumbu is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Abumbu manages to kick Castano off! Castano jumps back into Abumbu's guard.
Abumbu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Castano. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Abumbu can't keep his opponent in guard - Castano advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Castano is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Abumbu doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Castano.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Castano is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Abumbu sees it coming and defends easily.
Castano looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Abumbu tries to kick Castano off but Castano keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Castano is working for a kimura but Abumbu is defending it quite comfortably.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Castano takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Castano content to control rather than advance.

Castano is looking for a kimura but Abumbu is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Castano to get the leverage.

Castano seems to be looking for submissions.
Well, if Castano is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Castano misses with a takedown

and Abumbu counters by moving into the clinch.

Castano has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Abumbu after a bit of a struggle.

Abumbu is fighting off a takedown attempt but Castano is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Abumbu to the mat. Abumbu regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Castano has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Castano is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Castano sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Abumbu's guard.
Abumbu is breathing heavily.

Abumbu rushes Castano and presses him up against the cage.

Abumbu's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Castano is looking to clinch but Abumbu is avoiding it.
Castano tries for a takedown but Abumbu sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Abumbu tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Abumbu throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Abumbu.

Castano's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Castano is on top in guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Horrible takedown attempt by Abumbu or perhaps it was just good defense by Castano, which made it look bad.
It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.

Both fighters circling a little - Abumbu finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Abumbu lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Castano circles away quickly and effectively.

Castano drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Abumbu dives on top into guard.

Abumbu is fighting to break Castano's control of his arms but Castano is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Castano bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Abumbu's guard.

Castano drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Castano jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Castano slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Castano slows the pace down.
Abumbu parries the strikes from Castano easily there. Castano is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Abumbu to escape.
Castano is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Castano throws an elbow but Abumbu slips to the side and avoids it well.

Castano has hold of Abumbu's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Abumbu tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Castano cranks the arm and Abumbu screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Abumbu, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 4, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Bruno Castano!

Bruno Castano was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
