Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jack Merel (ranked 3125 p4p, 386 weight class) and Scott Mallox (ranked 1859 p4p, 254 weight class). Merel comes to the cage accompanied by Laura Tesoro - Higher. Mallox has chosen Mobb Deep - Quiet Storm as his entrance music. Jack Merel could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Scott Mallox's chin.

With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Scott Mallox!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Jorge Garcia and Franklyn Lucas.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mallox scores with a jab to the head.
Merel throws a sloppy head kick and Mallox moves out of range easily.
Mallox swings for the body but Merel moves out of range.
Merel went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Merel paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

It looks like Scott Mallox has been cut.
Merel swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
And Mallox tries to counter it with a takedown but Merel pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Mallox swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Merel takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Mallox lands a nice shot to the body.

and Merel counters with a left to the body.
Mallox swings for the body but Merel moves out of range.
Merel is looking for a counter combo.
Mallox takes a jab right on the kisser.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Merel seems to have got his legs back now.
Merel lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Merel's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Merel tries to work over Mallox's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Merel pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Merel feints and then cracks Mallox's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Mallox down.
Merel lands a jab to the head.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mallox has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Mallox will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
