PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Azizi Camara (ranked 7655 p4p, 665 weight class) and Ezio Franco (ranked 22311 p4p, 785 weight class). Franco is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by BASS. Azizi Camara had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Azizi Camara!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ezio Franco!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Jonathan Paton and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice jab there from Camara.
Camara works the jab nicely.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Camara.
Camara throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Camara throws a body shot but no joy.
Franco tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Camara shoots for a double leg takedown but Franco sprawls well. He's pushed Camara's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
And Franco tries to counter it with a takedown but Camara pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Camara definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Camara fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Azizi Camara. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Camara tests Franco's chin there with a solid looking shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Camara fails to land the takedown.
Franco drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Camara defends it well.
Franco keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Camara throws a body punch but Franco moves out of range.
Camara misses with an uppercut. Franco saw that one coming.
Camara darts in trying to clinch

so Franco counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Franco working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Franco with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Franco is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Camara is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Franco works over Camara with some ground and pound from guard.
Franco stands up over Camara, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Franco must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Franco is in close to Camara's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Franco throws a strike but Camara rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Franco lands a couple of shots from the bottom.
Franco keeping moving, preventing Camara from controlling successfully.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Camara wants to pass the guard but Franco is keeping the position.
Franco throws a couple of heel strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Franco really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Camara. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Franco will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Franco thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Franco throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A big left from Camara misses.
And Franco tries to counter it with a takedown but Camara pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Camara gets caught napping as Franco dives in and scores a takedown. Camara manages to retain guard.

Franco stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Camara throws up his legs and catches Franco in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Franco tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Camara! That came out of nowhere!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Azizi Camara!
In his post fight interview, Azizi Camara started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
