PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rory Green (ranked 8729 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aston Davids (ranked 9715 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Rory Green has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rory Green!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Aston Davids!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Michael Johnstone and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Green misses with a head kick.
A head kick by Davids misses

and Green counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Green blocks the strikes from Davids.
Green wants to control but Davids is keeping him busy.
Green throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Davids tries to kick Green off but Green keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Davids is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Davids tries to get to full guard but Green has control of the leg.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Green is keen to just control but Davids is a slippery customer.
Davids has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Cozad The Island. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Davids is trying to stand.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Davids leaves Green with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Green tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Davids is defended easily by Green.

Davids has Green up against the cage in a clinch.
Green is looking for a takedown.

A short left from Davids.
Green has Davids pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Davids manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rory Green. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Green is breathing heavily.

Davids breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Davids instigates a clinch.
Davids tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Davids gets underhooks to prevent Green's takedown attempt.
Green is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Davids should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Davids lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Green is looking to get back to is feet but Davids passes into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Davids tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Davids controls the position.

Green takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Davids trying to control the position but Green is working away.
Davids landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Green is looking for a sweep.

Davids works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Davids looks up at the clock and then as Green takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Davids smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Davids wants to stand but Green is controlling his arm.
Davids has control of an arm but Green manages to advance to Davids's back!
Green looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Davids tries to escape the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Green not allowing Davids to control his hands.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Davids wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Aston Davids dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Davids throws a head kick that misses

and Green counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Davids!
Davids has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Green tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Davids sneaks back into half guard.
Green seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Davids does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Davids flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Green is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Davids works his way to full guard. Good work.
Green has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Green is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Davids has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Green is looking to defend but Davids has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Green! Davids pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Green taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Aston Davids!
