PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paul Warror (ranked 173 p4p, 25 weight class) and Ramon Gracie (ranked 252 p4p, 39 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Gracie's choice of entrance music: Jiu Jitsu: Vai Finaliza!. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Warror!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Ramon Gracie!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Chris Edwards and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Warror looks to throw the jab but Gracie is out of range.
Warror throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Gracie feints the counter takedown.
Warror avoids a kick to the body.
Gracie takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Gracie doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Warror is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Gracie finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Warror throws a hook to the side of Gracie's head but Gracie sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Warror fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Gracie checks it well.
Warror throws a low kick but it's checked well by Gracie.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Warror tries to score with a low kick but Gracie moves his leg out of the way.

Gracie takes one to the chin there.
Gracie throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Warror throws a low kick but Gracie moves out of range easily.
Gracie moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Warror misses the shot to the body.
Warror cracks Gracie with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
A telegraphed right hand from Warror misses the target.
Gracie feints the counter takedown.
Warror lands with a thumping leg kick.
Paul Warror seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Warror blocks a low kick nicely.
Warror throws a quick counter kick to the body but Gracie avoids it.
Paul Warror is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Gracie counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Gracie.

Warror is not content to let Gracie control the position.
Warror knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gracie on the ground.

Gracie tries to move into full mount but can't pass Warror's legs.
Warror can't do much from the bottom here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Warror tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Warror trying desperately to get to his feet.
Gracie moves to back control.

Gracie is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Warror is defending well though. Gracie let's go of the attempt for now.
Good control from Gracie.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Gracie has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Warror has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Paul Warror will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Gracie moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Warror misses with a hook. Gracie ducked under it nicely.
Warror smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Gracie pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Warror was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
The fighters circling - Warror throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Gracie.

Warror lands a nice shot to the body.
Warror throws a hook to the side of Gracie's head but Gracie sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Gracie bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Gracie, right into the meat.
Warror throws a wild body kick that Gracie sees coming a mile off.
Gracie uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Warror.
A looping hook to the body misses from Warror. Gracie does a little dance to reset his feet.
Warror throws a shot from downtown. Gracie moves away and avoids it.
Warror swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Gracie lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Paul Warror is winning the standup battle so far.
Warror fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Gracie.

Gracie ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Warror moves away.

Warror lands a nice hook to Gracie's body. Gracie takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Gracie shoots in but Warror avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Warror misses the shot to the body.
Gracie throws a leg kick but Warror sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Gracie has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Warror finds it's way round the side to connect with Gracie's head.
Warror throws a nice looking combination but Gracie bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Warror tries to score with a low kick but Gracie moves his leg out of the way.
A slow jab from Warror misses its intended target.

Warror throws a leg kick which misses Gracie's front leg but catches the back leg as Gracie tries to avoid it.
Warror throws a low kick but Gracie avoids it.
Warror lands a nice shot to the body.

Gracie turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Warror stuffs the takedown.
Warror throws a quick inside leg kick.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Warror as he jumps to the side.
Warror is looking for a counter combo.
Paul Warror has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ramon Gracie.
Warror comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Gracie connects with a body shot.
Warror scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

Gracie tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Warror manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Gracie tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Warror just stands there and leans against the cage.
Gracie lands a left hand that snaps the head of Warror backwards.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Warror.
Gracie lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Warror lands a hook that snaps the head of Gracie backwards.
Gracie goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Warror misses with the head strike.

Warror pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Warror throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and Gracie counters with a takedown into side control.

Gracie goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Warror has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Gracie but great work by Warror.
Gracie wants to control but Warror postures up.
Gracie looks to move to half guard but instead Warror has passed into mount! Damn!
Gracie is looking to get to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Warror dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Warror takes a swing at Gracie's ribcage but misses.
Warror looks for the body kick but Gracie saw that one coming.
Warror throws a leg kick that is checked

and Gracie counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Warror is trying to control the position but Gracie postures up.

Gracie is trying to work for a kimura but Warror is defending well.
Warror is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Ryōzanpaku Dojo, so we'll see if he gets out of it.
Gracie moves into full mount! Warror won't be happy about that!
Gracie can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Warror is looking to escape.
Warror wants to hold on but Gracie pushes him away.

Gracie moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Warror has worked his arm free - good work by Warror!
Gracie tries to move into full mount but can't pass Warror's legs.

Gracie is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Warror has escaped the position, nice work there.

Warror is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Warror is not content to let Gracie control the position.
Gracie staying calm.
Gracie tries to advance to mount but Warror denies him.
Paul Warror is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gracie lands a nice forearm strike.
Gracie tries to move to mount but Warror blocks the move with his legs.
Gracie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Warror keeps working.

Gracie is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Warror knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Gracie is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Warror looks calm but he's in trouble here. Gracie gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Warror is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Gracie lets go of the hold and Warror can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ramon Gracie!
Ramon Gracie was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
