PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anton Mammoth (ranked 803 p4p, 20 weight class) and Arthur Curry (ranked 681 p4p, 19 weight class). Mammoth comes to the cage accompanied by I came to bring the pain. Curry is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Molly Malone - The Dubliners. Arthur Curry told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anton Mammoth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 39 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Arthur Curry!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Curry throws an overhand right that lands on Mammoth's shoulder, as Mammoth tries to avoid the shot.
Mammoth throws a shot to the body.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Mammoth.
Curry lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Curry misses with a looping left.
Mammoth closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Mammoth scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Curry throws a big overhand right that connects, sending Mammoth tumbling to the canvas!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Curry wants to stand but Mammoth has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Mammoth looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Curry slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Curry has control of an arm but Mammoth manages to advance to Curry's back!

Curry staying busy and making it hard for Mammoth to control.
Curry felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Curry wants to control his opponent's hands but Mammoth gets his hands free.
Curry is trying to stand back up.

Mammoth is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Curry is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Mammoth gets his way!

Mammoth is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Curry is defending well though. Mammoth let's go of the attempt for now.
Mammoth has the hooks in. Curry is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Curry wants to control his opponent's hands but Mammoth gets his hands free.

Curry is trying to get back to his feet but Mammoth has full control of the position and if anything, Curry has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Curry looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Curry breaks Mammoth's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Curry has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mammoth is proving hard to escape from.
Mammoth wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Curry wanted to stand there but Mammoth had control of the position.

Mammoth is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Arthur Curry will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Curry throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Curry connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

and Mammoth counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Arthur Curry seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Curry throws the left hand but Mammoth avoids the punch easily.

Curry takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Mammoth lands with a straight right. Curry didn't see that one coming.

It looks like Arthur Curry has been cut.

Curry lands a slapping body shot.

Mammoth pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mammoth lands with a hook. Curry tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Curry lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Mammoth throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A little jabbing left from Curry on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Curry defending well as Mammoth loads up on a big left hand.
Curry fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Mammoth has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Mammoth takes one to the side of the head.
Curry scores with a hook.
Curry might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Mammoth thows a left - swing and a miss!
Mammoth ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Curry moves away.
Mammoth looks to land a left hand but Curry moved out of range nicely.
Nice defenses there by Mammoth.

Curry bobbing and weaving well here. And he's unloaded with a massive right hand that drops Mammoth! He dives into his guard looking to finish!


Mammoth is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Curry slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Oh Mammoth is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Curry wants to get up but he can't break Mammoth's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mammoth holds on and takes a little breather.

Mammoth seems to have got his legs back now.

Curry avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Mammoth is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Curry defends well.

A very excited looking Arthur Curry made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
