PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between New Beginning (ranked 4471 p4p, 390 weight class) and Max Paddy (ranked 4842 p4p, 408 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, New Beginning!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Max Paddy!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Paul Gruel and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beginning avoids the head kick by Paddy.
Paddy is looking to land body kicks.
Paddy scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Paddy fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Beginning looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Beginning motions for Paddy to come forward. Beginning throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Paddy staying out of range there.
Beginning throws a leg kick that misses.
Beginning blocks a leg kick.
Paddy swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Beginning tries to counter by clinching up but Paddy breaks away and moves out of range.
Paddy slips under a jab from Beginning.
Beginning throws out a leg kick but Paddy moves out of range and Beginning only half commits.
Paddy unleashes a big counter combination but Beginning bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Beginning blocks a head kick by Paddy.
Beginning throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Paddy tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Paddy uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Beginning.
Paddy was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Paddy fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Beginning manages to avoid it.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Paddy has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Beginning might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Beginning is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Paddy is keen to just control but Beginning is a slippery customer.
Beginning has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Paddy is working away from the top position though.

Beginning is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Paddy's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
Beginning swings away with a leg kick that misses.

Paddy ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Beginning moves away.

and Paddy counters with a shoot takedown. Beginning fights it but they end up in guard.

Beginning's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Paddy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Beginning swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Beginning not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Paddy drops back looking for a leg! Beginning is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Beginning manages to kick Paddy off! Paddy jumps back into Beginning's guard.

Max Paddy dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

New Beginning has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Paddy has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Beginning keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Beginning crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Paddy - the referee stops the clock and Beginning gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Paddy. Beginning manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
New Beginning seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Paddy is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Beginning is refusing to be controlled, as Paddy sits in half guard.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Paddy thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Paddy connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Beginning some visible discomfort.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Beginning is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Paddy's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Paddy is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Beginning sees it coming and defends easily.

That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
