Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jose Aldo (ranked 4025 p4p, 369 weight class) and Thorn Drysdale (ranked 3912 p4p, 361 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Hirohito Nitta and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drysdale throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Drysdale moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Aldo stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Aldo wants it to stay on the feet.
Aldo will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Sloppy strikes from Drysdale. Those never looked like landing.
Drysdale keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Drysdale shoots in looking for a takedown. Aldo tries to sprawl out of it but Drysdale keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Aldo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've been hearing good reports from Aldo's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Drysdale cracks Aldo with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Aldo from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.

Drysdale lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Aldo breaks Drysdale's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Aldo throws a big counter combination but Drysdale scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Aldo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Drysdale tries to avoid it but Aldo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Drysdale to the ground. Drysdale escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Drysdale has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Drysdale is on top in guard.
