Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Raja Ohri (ranked 4892 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phill Brooks (ranked 4382 p4p, 0 weight class). Ohri kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is The Next Episode. Brooks has chosen Cult Of Personailty as his entrance music. Phill Brooks has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Raja Ohri's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Raja Ohri!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phill Brooks!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brooks gets a takedown into half guard.

Brooks is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Ohri looking for submissions off his back.
Brooks thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ohri's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brooks sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Ohri defending well though.

Ohri wants to get back to full guard but Brooks has mounted him!
Brooks lands with some strikes.
Brooks has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Brooks can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ohri is looking to escape.

Ohri tries to hold on but Brooks pushes him away.

Brooks is working for a guillotine from mount but Ohri frees his head quite easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ohri is looking to improve his position but Brooks isn't that keen on the idea.

Brooks goes for an armbar but Ohri turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Ohri.
Brooks manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ohri manages to get himself to full guard.

Brooks passes easily into side control. Nice work.
You can see the frustration on Ohri's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Brooks goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Ohri has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Brooks but great work by Ohri.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ohri is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Brooks knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Ohri tries for a takedown but Brooks sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Brooks gets a clinch.
Brooks tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Ohri tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Brooks smiles and moves away.
Brooks looks to land a combination but Ohri avoids it well.

Ohri throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Brooks was covering up waiting for the punch and Ohri finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Ohri avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ohri throws an elbow that misses. Brooks uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Ohri's guard. Nice move by Brooks!

Ohri controls Brooks momentarily but Brooks frees himself.

Brooks stands up from Ohri's guard - Brooks perhaps looking for a knockout.
Ohri tries for a takedown but Brooks sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Raja Ohri. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ohri feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Ohri is looking to work some ground and pound but Brooks has wrist control.
Ohri won't allow Brooks to sweep him here.
Brooks wants to stand but Ohri is controlling the position.

Brooks has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Brooks wants to sweep here but Ohri controlling him for the moment.

Ohri tries to clinch but Brooks moves out of range.

Ohri forces Brooks back against the cage and clinches.
Brooks fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Brooks pushes Ohri back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Ohri gets underhooks to prevent Brooks's takedown attempt.
Brooks looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Brooks is pressed up against the cage. Ohri has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Brooks down to the mat. Brooks avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Ohri throws a nice looking combination but Brooks bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Brooks displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ohri.
Brooks throws a counter combo.
Ohri shoots in and drives through. Brooks sprawls well.

Ohri dives in and scores a takedown into Brooks's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brooks tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Ohri's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Brooks has his foot on Ohri's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ohri works his way back into a safe position though.
Ohri throws a strike but Brooks rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Brooks wants to stand but Ohri has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Phill Brooks showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Brooks stands and throws Ohri's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Ohri can't do much from the bottom here.
Brooks is working Ohri over with some ground and pound from side control.
Brooks throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Ohri works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

Brooks looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Ohri is trying to control but can't.
Brooks wants to take a breather but Ohri is having none of it.

Ohri tries to roll over but Brooks keeps him under control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Nice sprawl there from Brooks as Ohri shoots in.
As Ohri backs off Brooks throws a huge counter combo but Ohri manages to avoid it all.
Ohri fails with an attempt to clinch.
Ohri tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Brooks swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Raja Ohri. That's going to take a lot out of him.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Brooks enables Ohri to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Brooks manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Brooks has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Ohri lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Brooks scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Ohri tries to clinch there but Brooks circles away.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Brooks! But no joy.
No luck for Ohri with that takedown attempt.
Raja Ohri seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Brooks gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Ohri wants the takedown. Brooks is fighting it off but Ohri persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Brooks's guard against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ohri is sitting in close to Brooks's body. Brooks has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Ohri is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Ohri is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Brooks.
