Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Brian Spiagnu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tournament King!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Marco Blurström and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spiagnu misses with a double jab

and King moves into the clinch.
Spiagnu wants to stall.

King jumps guard and drags Spiagnu to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
King is trying to control the position but Spiagnu postures up.
Spiagnu wants to control from the top but King keeps moving.
Spiagnu in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Spiagnu has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Spiagnu accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

King is looking for a triangle but Spiagnu pushes his legs off easily.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if King can do anything to dispel that myth.
King keeps trying to improve his position.
King controls Spiagnu momentarily but Spiagnu frees himself.

King really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Spiagnu. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
King is looking to sweep but instead, Spiagnu has passed into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
King is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Spiagnu scores with a couple of nice shots.

King is pressing down on Spiagnu's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


King uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Spiagnu.

King shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. King showed some decent athleticism there.

King moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Spiagnu.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on Spiagnu's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Spiagnu tries to reverse the position but King maintains control.

King is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Spiagnu is surviving well by controlling King's body position as best he can.

King goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Spiagnu turns into him and now he's in King's guard.
King wants to get back to his feet but Spiagnu is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Spiagnu wants to pass the guard but King is keeping the position.

King has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Spiagnu can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Spiagnu advances position into side control!
King prevents Spiagnu from moving into mount.
Spiagnu lands a nice forearm strike.
King is looking to regain half guard here but Spiagnu keeps moving and retains side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
King wants to control but Spiagnu postures up.
Spiagnu is working King over with some ground and pound from side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Brian Spiagnu will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Spiagnu tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and King is able to avoid easily.
King bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
King tries to counter by closing the distance.
Spiagnu pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces King back to the cage. Spiagnu follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
King gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Spiagnu counters with a straight right hand.
Spiagnu misses with a low kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from King.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A bone on bone clash there as King blocks the leg kick.
King shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Spiagnu but Spiagnu pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Brian Spiagnu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tournament King.
Spiagnu looks to throw the jab but King is out of range.

King closes this distance looking for a takedown but Spiagnu circles away.
King takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
King tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Spiagnu swivels and escapes.
Spiagnu changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Spiagnu lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
King on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Spiagnu swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Tournament King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
King takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Spiagnu shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. King eats them both and turns towards Spiagnu to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Spiagnu motions for King to come forward. Spiagnu throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Spiagnu scores with the left hand. King knows he should have avoided that one.

and King counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by King.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Spiagnu is trying to stall.
King stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Spiagnu is trying to break free.

King breaks from the clinch.
Spiagnu connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

King has closed the distance and engaged Spiagnu in a clinch.
King blocks a punch to the side of the head.

King breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Spiagnu looks to land a combination but King avoids it well.
King steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Spiagnu.

Spiagnu wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Spiagnu cracks King with a right hand to the side of the head.

King decides to stand back up. King steps back and let's Spiagnu get back to his feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Spiagnu prevents the takedown attempt.
A right hook to the body lands for King.

King breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

King darts in and clinches Spiagnu up against the cage.
King jumps guard but Spiagnu turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Tournament King has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

And that's the end of the fight!
Brian Spiagnu showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Spiagnu, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
