Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Michael Carter (ranked 1129 p4p, 127 weight class) and Segey Taranin (ranked 2171 p4p, 240 weight class). Carter comes to the cage accompanied by Jazz Cartier - Dead or Alive. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Hirohito Nitta and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Taranin misses with an uppercut. Carter saw that one coming.
A looping hook to the body misses from Taranin. Carter does a little dance to reset his feet.
Taranin fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Carter manages to avoid it.
Taranin shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Carter sprawls well. Carter wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Taranin gets slowly back to his feet.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Taranin is on top in guard.
Taranin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carter swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Carter is pushing down on Taranin's leg trying to pass to half guard. Taranin is fighting to maintain full guard but Carter has managed to sneak the leg through.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Carter not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Carter's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

It looked like Carter wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

We've been told by Carter's head coaches at Forest Hill Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Taranin shoots in looking for a takedown. Carter tries to sprawl out of it but Taranin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Carter manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Taranin's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Carter connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Taranin scrambles back to his feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Carter fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Taranin to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Taranin looks to clinch but Carter throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Taranin taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!
