Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Otto Tjack (ranked 2483 p4p, 257 weight class) and Jay Smith (ranked 1688 p4p, 192 weight class). Jay Smith is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Otto Tjack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 1, fighting out of New York, Jay Smith!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Lou da Vinci and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tjack thows a left - swing and a miss!
Tjack misses the shot to the body.
Smith throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Smith connects with a nice looking jab.
Smith with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Tjack has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Julius Gym in the buildup to the fight.
Tjack is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.


It looks like Otto Tjack has been cut.
Tjack moves away from the strike by Smith.

Smith fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Tjack, pushing him back against the cage.
Smith looking to stall.
Tjack managing to block the knees to the body from Smith.
Tjack lands a shot to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tjack tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Smith's elbow.
Tjack lands a left hand that snaps the head of Smith backwards.
Smith manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Tjack scores with a nice hook to the head.

Tjack tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Smith is trying to pull guard but Tjack has him pressed against the cage.

Smith gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Smith stops Tjack from getting back to his feet.

Smith is trying to work for a kimura but Tjack is defending well.
Smith prevents Tjack from standing back up.

Tjack has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Smith is on him like a limpet, forcing Tjack back against the cage.
Smith lands a body shot in the clinch.

Tjack breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Smith throws a shot to the body.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Tjack on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Smith moves out of range of the strikes.
Smith tries to clinch but Tjack moves out of range.
Smith cracks Tjack with an open hand slap.
Smith avoids the body shot from Tjack.
Otto Tjack is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Tjack lands a head shot.
Tjack takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Smith throws a body punch but Tjack moves out of range.
Smith scores with a jab to the body.
Tjack looks to score with a jab to the body but Smith is just out of range.
Tjack thows a left - swing and a miss!
Smith throws a hook to the side of Tjack's head but Tjack sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Tjack throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Tjack connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Smith takes a swing at Tjack's ribcage but misses.
Smith ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Smith gets a double leg takedown into Tjack's guard.
Smith passes Tjack's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Tjack kicks Smith off and gets back to his feet.
Smith with a nice cross.
Tjack fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Smith gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Tjack fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Smith manages to avoid it.
Tjack rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Smith counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Smith prevents a body shot from Tjack.
A short body shot lands from Tjack as the two fighters clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith has a couple of punches blocked by Tjack.
Tjack swings away with an uppercut that misses.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Tjack misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Tjack gets underhooks to prevent Smith's takedown attempt.
Tjack misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Smith is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Tjack to keep the fight standing.
Otto Tjack has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jay Smith.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Tjack throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Smiths head.
Tjack struggles to land a body shot inside as Smith controls his hands.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Tjack pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sloppy strikes from Tjack. Those never looked like landing.
Smith fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Otto Tjack will probably get the nod.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Smith tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tjack swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Tjack lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Smith catches Tjack with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Tjack lands a head shot.
Smith has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
Tjack is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Smith.
Tjack misses with an uppercut. Smith saw that one coming.
Smith throws a looping overhand right but Tjack ducks down to avoid it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith scores with a jab to the head.
Smith misses the shot to the body.

Smith drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Tjack wants to get back to his feet but Smith passes into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Tjack throws a strike but Smith rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Smith is standing up over Tjack. Tjack looks to escape but Smith dives into side control.

Smith wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Tjack, who protects the arm well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Tjack tries to escape back to his feet but Smith has kept hold of him... Oh, now he's got Tjack's back and is looking for the choke... Is it? Is it sunk in? YES! Tjack is tapping! Smith saw the opportunity and took it - ruthless!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jay Smith!
An out of breath Jay Smith thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
Otto Tjack spoke after the fight, saying 'I'm going to stab you with a screwdriver and steal your bike.'.
