Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rupert Whiston!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ahti Kaleva!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Whiston fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kaleva to the ground. Whiston is now in Kaleva's guard.
Kaleva not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kaleva looking to hit a scissor sweep but Whiston is one step ahead there.
Kaleva being controlled here, momentarily.
Whiston forces his way into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Kaleva is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Whiston defends well.
Whiston controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Kaleva shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Whiston as he jumps to the side.

so Kaleva counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Whiston holds on and takes a little breather.
Kaleva keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Whiston's head.

Whiston looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Kaleva loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Whiston definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Whiston pulls Kaleva in close to prevent any damage.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kaleva accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kaleva is fighting to break Whiston's control of his arms but Whiston is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

My spies in 3Band MMA ($500/week) inform me that Kaleva has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Kaleva tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Whiston swivels and escapes.

Kaleva creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Whiston sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Whiston is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Kaleva off and has taken his back!
Whiston really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Kaleva.
Whiston seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Kaleva for as long as he can get away with.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Whiston's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Kaleva is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Whiston off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Kaleva stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Whiston swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's time! Whiston's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

A quick step to the side and Whiston tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kaleva tries to score a power double leg takedown but Whiston sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kaleva somewhat.

Ahti Kaleva comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kaleva has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
