Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rolen gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Howard could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Howard misses with a hook to the ribs.

Rolen breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rolen throws a sloppy head kick

and Howard counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Rolen wants to improve his position but Howard is controlling well.

Rolen has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Howard escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Howard!
Rolen is looking to regain half guard here but Howard keeps moving and retains side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Howard lands an elbow.
Howard lands a decent elbow from side control.
Rolen takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Howard wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Rolen, who protects the arm well.

Howard lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Rolen down.

Howard has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Rolen on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Rolen takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Howard thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Rolen is looking to reverse the position.

Rolen takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Rolen tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Howard wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Rolen keeps Howard under control for a moment.

Howard in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Howard creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Howard decides to stand back up. Howard steps back and let's Rolen get back to his feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Howard.
Rolen wants to get back to his feet but Howard is dominant here and he's now got Rolen's back!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Howard.
Howard biding his time, controlling Rolen.
Howard cracks Rolen with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Rolen from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
Howard gets his hands free as Rolen looks to control.
Howard lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Howard.
Rolen is trying to get back to his feet but Howard has full control of the position and if anything, Rolen has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Howard is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Rolen knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Rolen for a finish.
You can see the frustration on Rolen's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Howard is trying to stick to Rolen's back but Rolen is turning into Howard. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Howard's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Rolen.
Rolen wanted to stand there but Howard had control of the position.
Howard wants to sweep but no luck.
Rolen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Howard. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Howard is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Howard tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Rolen gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Howard swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Howard fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Rolen takes a shot to the head.

Howard wants to break the clinch but can't.

Howard escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Howard fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Rolen looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Rolen is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Howard is controlling Rolen's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Howard wants to control but Rolen is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Howard is looking to improve his position.
Rolen throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Howard is trying to control but can't.
Rolen prevents Howard from improving his position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Howard is trying to stand up here but Rolen is controlling him well.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Rolen moves into full mount! Howard won't be happy about that!
Rolen tries to control but Howard wriggling away.
Rolen scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Howard is squirming around, avoiding Rolen's attempts to control the action.
Rolen fails to advance to Howard's back.

Rolen is looking to stand but Howard has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
Howard tries to hold on but Rolen pushes him away.
Howard slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Howard is not content to let Rolen control the position.
Howard gets back to full guard.

Rolen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Howard has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rolen has managed to get both his arms back between Howard's legs - danger averted.
Rolen must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Rolen is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Howard has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Rolen is looking to defend but Howard has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Rolen! Howard pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Rolen taps out and this one is all over!
