Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Michel Cook!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Andre Barbosa!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Hirohito Nitta and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barbosa ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Barbosa fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Barbosa clinches up with Cook and pushes him back against the cage.
Cook jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Barbosa walks away with a smile on his face. Cook gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Cook fails to land the takedown.
Barbosa wants to counter with a clinch but Cook pushes him away.
Barbosa moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Barbosa has closed the distance and engaged Cook in a clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Barbosa's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Barbosa wants to get back to striking at distance but Cook won't allow it.

Barbosa is looking to stand back up but Cook counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Barbosa.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Barbosa can do anything to dispel that myth.

Cook could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Cook seems to be looking for submissions.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cook connects with a nice short shot to Barbosa's temple.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

We've been informed that Barbosa has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Cook gets control of Barbosa's arms and successfully pulls guard. Cook will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Cook is looking for a triangle but Barbosa pushes his legs off easily.
Barbosa must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Barbosa throws a strike but Cook rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Cook gets to his feet. Barbosa looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Barbosa works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Barbosa lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Cook ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Cook no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Cook manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Barbosa manages to get himself to full guard.

Cook is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Barbosa is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Cook dives into side control.
Barbosa is breathing heavily.

Cook cracks Barbosa with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Cook tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Cook has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Cook thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Michel Cook overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Barbosa has one foot on Cook's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Cook looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.

That's time! Cook's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Cook is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Cook has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Barbosa is defending well but eventually Cook manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Barbosa has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!
