Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Elwood Shepard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Killney!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Bruno Hogan and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Killney drives through with a takedown into guard.
Killney seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Killney throws a big elbow that misses.

Shepard escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Killney gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Shepard might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Shepard bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Killney's guard.

Killney is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shepard stays in close to Killney's body and controls the position.
Shepard working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Shepard is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Shepard is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Shepard drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Shepard jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Killney looking to hit a scissor sweep but Shepard is one step ahead there.
Shepard trying to control the position from guard on top but Killney is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Killney not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Shepard trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Shepard postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Shepard scoring with some ground and pound.
Shepard distracts Killney with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Killney is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Shepard is in close to Killney's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Shepard cracks Killney with a solid left hand.

Shepard makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Killney wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Shepard is now in half guard.

Shepard prevents Killney from improving his position.
Shepard could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Killney has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Shepard is working away from the top position though.

Killney is looking to control Shepard's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Killney avoid being mounted?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shepard content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Shepard scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Shepard takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Shepard has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Killney wants to control but Shepard is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Shepard winds up and cracks Killney with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Killney trying to hold on to Shepard's head to control him but Shepard postures up.
Killney on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Killney wants to clinch.
Killney lands a jab to Shepard's midsection.

Shepard darts in and clinches Killney up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shepard effectively controlling the action here.

Killney breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Killney drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Shepard throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Nice straight punches there by Killney. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Killney.
Killney fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Shepard manages to avoid it.

Killney decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Shepard pushes Killney off and gets back to his feet.
Shepard is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Killney can do to turn this around?
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Killney misses with a double jab

and Shepard counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shepard scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Killney controls Shepard momentarily but Shepard frees himself.
Shepard is stalling in the full guard.
Shepard lands a couple of digs.
Elwood Shepard overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Shepard seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Killney controls Shepard momentarily but Shepard frees himself.

Shepard distracts Killney with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Shepard working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Killney scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Killney manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Shepard on his heels. He'll look to pass Shepard's guard now, I'm sure.

Shepard is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Killney has his hands clasped together but Shepard extends and breaks Killney's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Shepard.
