Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Karl Denke (ranked 243 p4p, 42 weight class) and Mat Diaz (ranked 1314 p4p, 205 weight class). Diaz has chosen I Got Five On It as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Karl Denke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mat Diaz!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, James Glass and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Denke ducks under a wild hook from Diaz.
A big left from Diaz misses.
Denke changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Denke rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Diaz moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Diaz misses with a body shot.

Diaz bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Denke is looking for a sweep.

Diaz thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Denke is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Diaz is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Denke is looking to improve his position but Diaz isn't that keen on the idea.
Diaz lands a heavy elbow.
Denke tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Diaz postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Denke looks a forlorn figure.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Diaz working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Denke is wriggling around trying to escape.
Diaz lands a heavy elbow.
Denke keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Denke sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Denke looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Diaz moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Denke.
Denke is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Diaz off and has taken his back!
Diaz rolls, trying to escape but Denke keeps control of the position.
Diaz has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Denke is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Diaz knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Diaz for a finish.

Diaz rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Diaz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Diaz winds up and cracks Denke with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Diaz trying to control from half guard but Denke is working away.
Diaz might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Denke haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mat Diaz dominated that round.
That's time! Denke's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Diaz throws a body punch but Denke moves out of range.
Diaz misses with a looping right.
Denke bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Denke keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Denke looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Diaz throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
It looked like Denke wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Denke missing with a left hand there. Diaz was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Diaz fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Denke on the side of the head.
A right-left combo lands from Denke.
Diaz throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz lands with an uppercut that bounces Denke off the cage and back into range.
Diaz throws a body punch but Denke moves out of range.
Diaz throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Denke takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Diaz slips under a jab.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Denke works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Denke throws a lazy right hand but Diaz sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Diaz listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.


Denke is rocked!


It looks like Karl Denke has been cut.

Diaz bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Oh Denke is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
A big shot lands for Diaz! That's hurt Denke! Will he recover? Diaz fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mat Diaz!
A very excited looking Mat Diaz made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
