PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Max Paddy (ranked 8567 p4p, 553 weight class) and Alex Hadley Jr (ranked 5464 p4p, 463 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Max Paddy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alex Hadley Jr!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Jeff Smith and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hadley Jr gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Paddy with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Hadley Jr goes for a takedown attempt but Paddy pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Paddy wants to get up but he can't break Hadley Jr's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Paddy has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hadley Jr is proving hard to escape from.
Paddy is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Paddy seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Paddy seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hadley Jr for as long as he can get away with.

Hadley Jr is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Paddy is aware though and is defending well.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Paddy is pressed up against the cage. Hadley Jr has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Paddy down to the mat. Paddy avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Paddy feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Paddy really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Paddy got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hadley Jr has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Paddy has managed to get both his arms back between Hadley Jr's legs - danger averted.

We've been hearing good reports from Paddy's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
