PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Junior Iron (ranked 4236 p4p, 384 weight class) and Bobby Bianchi (ranked 5652 p4p, 472 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Bobby Bianchi was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Junior Iron!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bobby Bianchi!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Mauricio Rocha and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Iron tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Bianchi manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Bianchi with a poor takedown
and Iron counters with a nice uppercut.

Iron gets caught napping as Bianchi dives in and scores a takedown. Iron manages to retain guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Bianchi makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Iron keeping full guard, as Bianchi tries to pass.
Bianchi wants to control from the top but Iron keeps moving.
Iron utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bianchi not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Bianchi drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Iron dives on top into guard.

Iron stopping the sweep attempt from Bianchi.
Bianchi has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Bianchi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Iron doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Iron manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Iron stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Bianchi looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Iron is fending him off so far but Bianchi persists. Nope, Iron circles away and we're back to standing.
Iron is looking to counter punch.
Iron punishes Bianchi's body with a nice straight punch.
Bianchi tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Iron swivels and escapes.
Junior Iron has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bobby Bianchi.
Iron cracks Bianchi with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Iron throws a leg kick which misses Bianchi's front leg but catches the back leg as Bianchi tries to avoid it.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Bianchi.

Bianchi is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Iron knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bianchi throwing strikes but Iron manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Bianchi regains half guard.

Bianchi looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Iron is just content to waste time from the top position. Bianchi takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bianchi is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Iron defends well.
Iron with a flurry of punches that miss.
Iron knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bianchi on the ground.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bianchi has an active guard here but Iron has managed to pass into half guard.
Iron wants to stand up but Bianchi has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Iron content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Bianchi looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Iron wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bianchi keeps working.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Iron moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Bianchi.
Iron wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bianchi keeps working.
Bianchi is trying to improve his position.
Iron wants to control but Bianchi is keeping him busy.
Iron sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Bianchi is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Junior Iron dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Bianchi shoots for a double leg takedown but Iron sprawls well. He's pushed Bianchi's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Iron throwing a counter right hand but Bianchi manages to avoid it.
Bianchi circles away from the clinch attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bianchi.
Iron tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bianchi paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A nice combination there by Iron.
Nice sprawl there from Iron as Bianchi shoots in.
Junior Iron has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bobby Bianchi.
Iron moves in looking to clinch but Bianchi pushes him off.
Iron scores with a jab to the body.

Iron drops Bianchi with a left and a right! Oh, Bianchi is hurt - Iron dives into side control looking to finish!


Bianchi is rocked!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Iron controlling from side mount.
Bianchi is still in real trouble! Can Iron finish him?
Bianchi is looking for a sweep.

Iron stands up.
Bianchi tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Iron swivels and escapes.
Bianchi fails with the takedown
and Iron counters with a big right hand! Oh Bianchi is in trouble here! Iron follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Junior Iron!
A determined Junior Iron didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
