PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Boubacar Binio (ranked 23712 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rishi Darshan (ranked 6538 p4p, 0 weight class). Binio has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. The key to victory for Boubacar Binio has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Darshan moves into the clinch successfully.
Binio is breathing heavily.

Darshan has hold of one of Binio's legs. Binio is fighting the takedown attempt but Darshan gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Darshan slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Binio controls Darshan momentarily but Darshan frees himself.
Darshan sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Darshan is continuing to stall.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Binio looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Darshan passes into side control.

Darshan has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Binio takes one to the chin there.

Darshan clinches up with Binio and pushes him back against the cage.

Darshan has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Binio uses from the top position.
Binio prevents Darshan from getting back to his feet.
Darshan pulls Binio in close to his closed guard and prevents Binio from doing any damage or advancing position.
Darshan is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Darshan is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Binio presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Darshan jumps guard and drags Binio to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Darshan has Binio pulled in close to control his posture.
Darshan wants to get back to his feet but Binio is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Binio is fighting to break Darshan's control of his arms but Darshan is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Darshan has his feet on Binio's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Darshan!


It looks like Boubacar Binio has been cut.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Darshan drives through and clinches with Binio against the cage.

Darshan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Darshan moves into range and clinches up with Binio.

Darshan wants the takedown. Binio is fighting it off but Darshan persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Binio's guard against the cage.

Darshan stands up and waves to Binio to follow him.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Darshan feints a jab promting Binio to slip. Darshan then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Binio slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Darshan gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Darshan gets a clinch.

Darshan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Horrible takedown attempt by Binio or perhaps it was just good defense by Darshan, which made it look bad.

Darshan ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Darshan no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Darshan wants to stand but Binio is controlling the position.

Darshan pulls Binio in to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Binio won't allow Darshan to get back to his feet.
Darshan is pulling down on Binio's head. It's preventing any offense from Binio, at least for the moment.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Darshan wants to stand but Binio is controlling the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Darshan lands a left and a right that sends Binio crashing to the canvas! Darshan dives into mount looking to finish!

Let's hope that Darshan has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Darshan.

The adventures of Darshan the control monster continue. Boring.
Darshan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Binio. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Binio is looking to get to half guard.
Darshan controlling from the full mount.
Binio tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Darshan controlling his opponent.
Yet more stalling tactics from Darshan.
Binio seems to have got his legs back now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Binio wants to hold on but Darshan pushes him away.

Rishi Darshan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Darshan lands with a straight right. Binio didn't see that one coming.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Darshan.
Darshan fails to land with a series of punches.

Darshan has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Binio regains guard immediately.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Darshan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Binio, pushing him back against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Darshan is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Binio can't fight it off and eventually Darshan manages to take the fight to the floor. Binio looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Binio is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Darshan dives into side control.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Darshan advances to mount.
Darshan tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Darshan's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Rishi Darshan is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Rishi Darshan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Darshan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
