PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Leandro Strickland (ranked 25125 p4p, 0 weight class) and Senad Kuc (ranked 6437 p4p, 0 weight class). Senad Kuc told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Strickland throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Kuc was covering up waiting for the punch and Strickland finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Strickland wants to get up but he can't break Kuc's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Kuc has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Strickland can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Kuc has eaten all the pies!

Kuc had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Strickland defends it easily.
Strickland is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kuc is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Strickland will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Strickland works over Kuc with some ground and pound from guard.

Strickland drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Kuc dives on top into guard.

Kuc is looking to pass into half guard but Strickland pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Strickland is in guard.

Kuc wants to stand up but Strickland is controlling him.
Strickland is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Strickland throws a big right hand that misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Strickland seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Strickland got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kuc has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Strickland has managed to get both his arms back between Kuc's legs - danger averted.

Kuc is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kuc escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Strickland gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Strickland throws a sloppy strike and Kuc has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Strickland is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Kuc!
