PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Carl Berg (ranked 6961 p4p, 675 weight class) and Borys Hund (ranked 3921 p4p, 478 weight class). Berg comes to the cage accompanied by Three 6 Mafia - That's Right ft. Akon, Jim Jones. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Carl Berg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Borys Hund!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Tarja Halkonen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hund shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Berg pinned against the cage. Berg gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Hund shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Berg as he jumps to the side.
Hund shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Carl Berg has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Borys Hund.
Berg lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Berg pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Hund back to the cage. Berg follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Berg gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Hund with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Berg lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Berg postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hund has control of Berg's left arm, preventing Berg from doing any damage.

Hund throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Berg with a flurry of punches that miss.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Berg accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hund is on top in guard.

Hund has gone for a leg lock! Berg slips out almost immediately though and dives into Hund's guard.

Berg throws a strike but Hund rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Berg is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hund defends well.

Hund postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Berg is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Hund, into his guard.

Hund looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Hund is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Berg is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Hund isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Berg stacks Hund on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Berg!

Berg throwing shots but Hund is blocking nicely.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Berg connects with a nice short shot to Hund's temple.
Berg working over Hund with some ground and pound. Hund looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Hund is pressing down on Berg's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Hund bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Berg's guard.

Berg has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
This has been an exciting period of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carl Berg dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Berg misses with a wild combination.
Hund looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Berg scores with a three punch combo!
Berg closes the distance and clinches up with Hund, looking for a takedown. Berg pushes Hund against the cage but Hund circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Hund fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Carl Berg is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Berg lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Berg.
Horrible takedown attempt by Hund or perhaps it was just good defense by Berg, which made it look bad.
Berg half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Berg tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hund wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Berg manages to get back to half guard.
Hund lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Berg tries to get to full guard but Hund has control of the leg.
Hund throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Hund wants to free his trapped foot but Berg is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Berg has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hund is working away from the top position though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Hund looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Hund is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Berg is just riding it out for now. Hund eventually gives up the hold.
Still in half guard, Hund seems content to control.

Hund with the ground and pound but Berg uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Berg has an active guard here but Hund has managed to pass into half guard.
Hund working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.


It looks like Carl Berg has been cut.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hund controlling the action here.

Hund is working for a submission of some sort.
Hund works his foot free and advances to mount.

Hund takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Hund lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Berg has given up his back. Will we see Hund going for some submissions?

A close second round but Borys Hund will probably get the nod - 10:9.

That's time! Berg's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Berg stuffs the takedown attempt from Hund. Hund gets slowly back to his feet.

Hund closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Hund lands in his opponent's guard.

Berg is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Hund drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hund has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Berg avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Hund changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Berg fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Hund changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Berg looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Borys Hund has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hund takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Check out the look on Hund's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Hund swings around for an armbar but Berg sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Hund's guard.

Hund must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Carl Berg showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Berg has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
