Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Paddy Bateman (ranked 2812 p4p, 326 weight class) and Kevin Whitfield (ranked 2609 p4p, 310 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paddy Bateman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kevin Whitfield!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bateman cracks Whitfield with a good jab.
Whitfield needs to keep his hands up - Bateman had a free shot at his head there.
Bateman with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Whitfield takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Bateman changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Bateman has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Whitfield throws a looping overhand right but Bateman ducks down to avoid it.
Bateman fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Whitfield throws the kick towards the body but Bateman avoids it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Bateman shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bateman seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Whitfield must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Bateman wants to sweep here but Whitfield controlling him for the moment.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Whitfield lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Whitfield scores with a crisp jab that stopped Bateman in his tracks.
Bateman stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Bateman fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Whitfield on the side of the head.
A slow jab from Whitfield misses its intended target.
Nice cross by Bateman.
Bateman tests Whitfield's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Whitfield lands a nice hook to Bateman's body. Bateman takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paddy Bateman dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Bateman is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Bateman in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Whitfield tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Bateman!
