PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Pablo Jr Silva (ranked 3849 p4p, 190 weight class) and Jason Tolevski (ranked 7580 p4p, 315 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pablo Jr Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jason Tolevski!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Emerson Jorge and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tolevski keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Tolevski stuffs the takedown attempt from Silva. Silva gets slowly back to his feet.

Silva closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Silva controlling the action here.

Silva looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tolevski is doing well to control the position and prevent Silva from advancing to side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Silva is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Tolevski has managed to free his arm - good work.

Silva is looking to take a break and control but Tolevski is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Silva wants to take a breather but Tolevski is having none of it.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Silva is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Tolevski's half guard.

Silva takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Silva throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tolevski is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Silva stops Tolevski from getting back to his feet.

Silva seems to be working for a kimura but Tolevski defends the submission attempt.
Silva wants to control but Tolevski is keeping him busy.
Silva is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Tolevski is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Tolevski is trying to get back to full guard.

Silva is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Silva seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Tolevski shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Silva pinned against the cage. Silva gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Silva defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Tolevski.
Silva shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
And Tolevski responds with a good body kick, but Silva manages to step out the way in time.
Tolevski looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Silva tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tolevski swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Tolevski is refusing to be controlled, as Silva sits in half guard.

Pablo Jr Silva overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Tolevski is looking to control Silva's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Tolevski avoid being mounted?
Silva content to control rather than advance.
Tolevski is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Tolevski is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Silva can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Tolevski is looking to escape.
Silva controlling the pace for now.
Tolevski is trying desperately to improve position.
Silva sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Tolevski tries to circle away but Silva has him pinned against the cage.

Silva works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Silva stands and throws Tolevski's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Silva wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tolevski keeps working.

Silva is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Tolevski knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Silva tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Silva has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Tolevski is trying to control Silva's posture but Silva avoids it.

Tolevski is not content to let Silva control the position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Silva lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Silva closes the distance and clinches up with Tolevski, looking for a takedown. Silva pushes Tolevski against the cage but Tolevski circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Silva, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
