PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Locke (ranked 529 p4p, 78 weight class) and Hannibal Rose (ranked 1299 p4p, 181 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Locke might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to What Makes a Good Man. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Locke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hannibal Rose!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Sam Margolis and James Atkins.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rose tries to close the distance and clinch but Locke swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Locke takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Rose throws a lazy head kick
and Locke connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Rose connects with a leg kick. Locke looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Locke thows a left - swing and a miss!
Rose throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Locke seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Rose avoids the body shot from Locke.
Locke misses the jab.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Rose! But no joy.
Rose swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
It looked like Locke wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Locke moves into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rose misses with some punches.
Locke stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Rose scores with a nice hook to the head.

Rose tries a body shot but Locke blocks it.

Rose throws an ugly left hook that misses
letting Locke counter with a right hand.

No joy there for Locke, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Rose throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Locke cracks Rose with a right hand to the side of the head.

Locke drives through and clinches with Rose against the cage.

It looks like Hannibal Rose has been cut.

Locke clinches up against the cage.
Locke lands with a short shot to the head.
Rose swings wildly with an uppercut but Locke uses good head movement to avoid it.
Locke works on Rose's body with a couple of short punches.

Locke manages to break the clinch.
Rose takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Locke lands with a nice body punch.
Locke lands a nice hook to Rose's body. Rose takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Rose chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Locke can pounce on him.

Rose tries to keep at a distance but Locke has taken the fight into the clinch.

Rose is rocked!
Locke works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Rose is still on wobbly legs! Can Locke finish him?

Locke lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Rose or not.

Locke breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Rose seems to have recovered his senses.
Locke lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Rose circles away quickly and effectively.
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from Locke! Rose is out on his feet! Locke rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Rose is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Rose is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Locke!
