The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Depp shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Gonzales has his feet on Depp's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Depp moves into range and clinches up with Gonzales.
Gonzales tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

I was talking to Gonzales's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Gonzales wants the takedown. Depp is fighting it off but Gonzales persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Depp's guard against the cage.

Depp manages to escape and get back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Depp avoids the head kick by Gonzales.
Gonzales shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Depp as he avoids it easily.
Depp throws a sloppy head kick and Gonzales moves out of range easily.
It looked like Gonzales wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Gonzales pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Depp is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gonzales is aware though and is defending well.

and Depp cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Depp lands with a kick to the ribs.
Gonzales leaves Depp with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Depp closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Depp lands in his opponent's guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Gonzales lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.

Depp throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gonzales's waist but Gonzales gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Depp off to one side.
