PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dong Sandoval (ranked 8435 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maxwell Clarke (ranked 6415 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dong Sandoval!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Maxwell Clarke!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Cecil Peabody and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Clarke is defended easily by Sandoval.
Clarke misses with a leg kick
and Sandoval counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Clarke tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Sandoval quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Clarke fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Sandoval throws the left hand but Clarke avoids the punch easily.

Clarke dives in and scores a takedown into Sandoval's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sandoval is trying to keep Clarke in close.
Clarke stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sandoval swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Sandoval is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Clarke is aware though and is defending well.

Sandoval has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Clarke is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Sandoval.

Clarke takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Clarke prevents Sandoval from getting the reversal.

Sandoval could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Sandoval is in a horrible position here. Clarke smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sandoval can't escape the position.
Sandoval might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Clarke fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Clarke avoids the attempt from Sandoval to control.
Sandoval is wriggling around trying to escape.
Clarke takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Sandoval tries to reverse the position but Clarke maintains control.

Clarke goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Sandoval is on top in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sandoval won't allow Clarke to sweep him here.

Clarke had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sandoval defends it easily.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Clarke fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Sandoval, pushing him back against the cage.

Clarke breaks from the clinch.
Clarke fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Clarke shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Sandoval manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Clarke must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Clarke controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sandoval is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Sandoval wants to improve his position but Clarke is controlling well.

Clarke seems to be working for a kimura but Sandoval defends the submission attempt.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Clarke takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Clarke wants to stand up but Sandoval is controlling the position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Clarke frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Clarke wants to control the pace but Sandoval is squirming around nicely.
Clarke takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Clarke has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Sandoval is squirming around, avoiding Clarke's attempts to control the action.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sandoval is trying to escape the mount.
Sandoval sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maxwell Clarke showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Sandoval tries to kick Clarke off in order to stand up. Clarke Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Clarke tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Clarke is trying to get an arm triangle but Sandoval is defending well.
Maxwell Clarke has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sandoval is trying to get back to half guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Clarke darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Sandoval is looking to improve his position.

Sandoval looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Clarke pushes past his half guard into mount!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Sandoval tries to roll over but Clarke keeps him under control.
Dong Sandoval has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Maxwell Clarke is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Clarke looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Maxwell Clarke comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Clarke winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
