The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Root has taken the fight to the clinch.
Santos breaks the clinch.
Root gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Santos.
Root closes the distance and clinches.
Root's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Santos swats away the attempt to clinch by Root.
Root shoots and misses
and Santos counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Santos.
Root fails to pull guard.
Root jumps guard but Santos stands there with Root around his waist. Root gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Santos wants to break free but Root has control.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Root escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Santos connects with a crisp jab.
Root keeps the fight on the outside.

Root manages to break the clinch.
Root dodges the punch combination from Santos.
Root looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Santos is fending him off so far but Root persists. Nope, Santos circles away and we're back to standing.

A cross from Santos lands.
Root lands with a nice combination. Santos backs away looking to recover.
Root takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Root showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Santos.
And Root tries to counter it with a takedown but Santos pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Root clinches.

Root manages to pull guard.
Root wants to sweep here but Santos controlling him for the moment.
Santos gets to his feet - Root follows without any prompting.
Santos misses with a body kick.
Root shoots in and bounces Santos off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Santos uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Santos slaps away a takedown attempt from Root, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Santos feinted there with a counter leg kick.

Root tries to score a power double leg takedown but Santos sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Root somewhat.
A combination from Santos does no damage.
Root shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Santos manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Root throwing shots but Santos is blocking nicely.

Root blocks the strikes from Santos.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Rodrigo Santos will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Root looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Santos is fending him off so far but Root persists. Nope, Santos circles away and we're back to standing.
Santos tries to counter by clinching up but Root breaks away and moves out of range.
Root throws a sloppy head kick and Santos moves out of range easily.
Santos tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Root was well out of range. Poor timing from Santos.
Root shoots for a takedown but Santos saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
The fighters circle momentarily. Santos darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Root scores with a leg kick.
Root throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Santos.

Root looks to clinch
and Santos counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Root is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Santos.
Santos is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

and Santos counters with a two punch combo.
Root takes one to the chin there.
Root is rocked!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Santos cracks Root with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Root falls to his knees and Santos doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!

Rodrigo Santos was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
