PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roddy Piper (ranked 4995 p4p, 511 weight class) and Vladimir Smirnoff (ranked 5352 p4p, 543 weight class). Piper comes to the ring accompanied by Roddy entrance. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Roddy Piper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Vladimir Smirnoff!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Frank Dennis and Tiny Johnson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smirnoff throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Smirnoff pushes Piper away with a front kick.
Smirnoff moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Piper is breathing heavily.
Smirnoff changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Piper tries to avoid it but Smirnoff manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Piper to the ground. Piper escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Smirnoff dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
We've been hearing reports that Piper has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Smirnoff lands a left and a right that send Piper crashing to the mat, dazed. Smirnoff thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

It looks like Roddy Piper has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Smirnoff lands with a kick to the ribs.
A thudding body kick lands there by Smirnoff!
Smirnoff lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Piper circles away quickly and effectively.
Nice body kick there by Smirnoff.
A punch combination from Smirnoff misses.
As Smirnoff looks to move away, Piper throws a big counter combo but Smirnoff just gets out of the way.
Smirnoff misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Piper throws a counter high kick but Smirnoff was just alert enough to avoid it.
Smirnoff scores with a kick to the body.
Smirnoff rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Piper moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Whack! Smirnoff lands a heavy head kick that drops Piper. The ref tackles Smirnoff to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Piper was done.
