PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Neil Gilas (ranked 1021 p4p, 155 weight class) and Seamus Farrelly (ranked 895 p4p, 134 weight class). Gilas kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Remember The Name - Fort Minor. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Neil Gilas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Seamus Farrelly!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Dean Styles and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Farrelly avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Farrelly throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Farrelly thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Gilas if he has to take too many more of those.
Farrelly moves in looking to clinch but Gilas pushes him off.
Gilas avoids the body shot from Farrelly.
Farrelly has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Farrelly throws the kick towards the body but Gilas avoids it.

We've been hearing reports that Gilas has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Farrelly lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Gilas has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Gilas and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Good leg kick by Gilas there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gilas has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Farrelly is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Farrelly is staying active underneath Gilas, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

I would just about give that final round to Seamus Farrelly.

Seamus Farrelly decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
