PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Pascual Perez (ranked 2348 p4p, 310 weight class) and Szandor Storm (ranked 3006 p4p, 389 weight class). Perez comes into the arena with Another One Bites The Dust blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Storm's choice of entrance music: Pantera - 5 Minutes Alone. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 18 - 1, fighting out of New York, Pascual Perez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Szandor Storm!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Bruno Lombardi and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Storm tries to land a body kick

and Perez counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Perez is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Storm is trying to stand.

Perez is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Storm has managed to free his arm - good work.
Storm tries to roll over but Perez keeps him under control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Perez is looking to take a break and control but Storm is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Perez looks to land a strike but Storm avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Storm pulls Perez in close to prevent any damage.
We've been hearing good reports from Perez's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Perez postures up in Storm's guard and throws a big left but Storm blocks it.
Perez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Storm swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Storm is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Storm wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Perez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Storm swivels and escapes.
Perez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Storm as he avoids it easily.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Storm has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Storm closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Storm makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Storm manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Perez has picked Storm up - he's going for a ride! Perez dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Perez takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Storm has his hands clasped together around Perez's back. He's all about the action.

Perez is looking for a kimura here.

Perez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Storm breaks from the clinch.
Szandor Storm seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Perez shoots in but no luck this time.
Storm throws a head kick that half lands.


It looks like Pascual Perez has been cut.
Storm pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Perez dives in and grabs Storm's left leg, looking for a takedown. Storm pushes down on Perez's head and hops out.
Perez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Storm's waist but Storm gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Perez off to one side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Storm breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Storm lands a left and a right that send Perez crashing to the mat, dazed. Storm thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Storm gets tackled into the cage by Perez. Perez maintains the clinch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Perez changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Storm fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Storm has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Storm breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Storm throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Perez takes the fight into the clinch.
Perez wants a takedown.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Storm takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Storm's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Perez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Storm scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Perez jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Storm walks away with a smile on his face. Perez gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Perez tries to close the distance and clinch but Storm swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Storm digs a right hand underneath Perez's ribcage. Perez let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Storm escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Perez takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Szandor Storm is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Storm throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Perez counters with a two punch combo.
Perez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Storm circles away.
Perez takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Storm stuns Perez with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Perez crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Storm - the referee stops the clock and Perez gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Storm. Perez manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

After the fight, Szandor Storm was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
