Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Phill Brooks (ranked 3042 p4p, 299 weight class) and Zapi Zap (ranked 8411 p4p, 0 weight class). Brooks comes to the cage accompanied by This Fire Burns. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phill Brooks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Zapi Zap!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zap tries to clinch up.
Brooks stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Brooks wants it to stay on the feet.
Zap tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Brooks defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Zap.
Zap fails with a takedown attempt.
Phill Brooks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Zapi Zap.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Zap decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Brooks shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Zap napping and manages to drive through into side control!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Zap can do anything to dispel that myth.

Brooks thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Brooks decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Zap with a lazy takedown attempt
and Brooks counters with a left to the body.
Zap looks winded!
Zap shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Brooks sprawls well. Brooks wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Zap gets slowly back to his feet.

Brooks had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Zap defends it easily.
Brooks manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Zap manages to get himself to full guard.

Brooks swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Brooks darts in and clinches Zap up against the cage.
Zap fails to pull guard.
Zap misses with a hook from the clinch.
Brooks has Zap pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Zap manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Zap gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Zap throwing strikes but missing.

Brooks bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Zap's guard.

Zap not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Zap wants to improve his position but instead Brooks has moved into half guard.
Brooks thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Zap's head.

Phill Brooks overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Brooks decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Brooks misses with a takedown attempt - Zap sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Brooks closes this distance looking for a takedown but Zap circles away.
Zap wants to counter with a clinch but Brooks pushes him away.

Zap dives in and grabs Brooks's left leg, looking for a takedown. Brooks pushes down on Zap's head and hops out.

Brooks breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Brooks is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Zap can do to turn this around?

Zap is rocked!

Brooks rushes Zap and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Zap is still on wobbly legs! Can Brooks finish him?
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Zap seems to have recovered his senses.
Brooks preventing the sweep.
Zap is breathing heavily.
Brooks lands a couple of elbows.

Zap is striking from the bottom but Brooks uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.
Zap is trying to get back to full guard.
Zap wants to get back to full guard but Brooks has passed into side control.
Brooks in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Brooks tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Brooks has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Brooks stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Brooks's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Zap is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Brooks's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Brooks's back!

Zap doesn't have the hooks in and Brooks manages to turn into his guard.
Zap wants to sweep but no luck.
Brooks trying to control but Zap is working from the bottom.

Brooks might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Brooks wants to control from the top but Zap keeps moving.
Brooks chips away with some ground and pound.

Brooks stands up over Zap, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Brooks pushes down on Zap's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Zap takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Brooks decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Brooks misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Brooks.

Brooks rushes Zap and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Zap is working for takedown but Brooks is calmly controlling the position for now.
Brooks jumps guard but Zap stands there with Brooks around his waist. Brooks gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Zap stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Brooks jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Zap walks away with a smile on his face. Brooks gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phill Brooks. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Well Brooks has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
