The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Souza fails with the takedown
and Thompson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Thompson dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Souza on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Souza's coach down at 10th planet rio was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Souza's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Souza doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

and Thompson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Thompson throws a head kick that half lands.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Donk. Thompson catches Souza right on the button with a cross.
Souza takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Rodrigo Souza seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Thompson lands with a good body shot.
Souza shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Thompson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Thompson closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Souza! Thompson dives in looking to finish! Souza is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!
