PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Willie McCoy (ranked 3558 p4p, 451 weight class) and Timur Umarov (ranked 991 p4p, 150 weight class). McCoy comes to the cage accompanied by Big Iron. The crowd seem to be enjoying Umarov's choice of entrance music: Timur Mucuraev - Anthem. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Willie McCoy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Timur Umarov!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCoy throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Umarov counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
McCoy keeps control of the position for the meantime.
McCoy is looking for a sweep. Umarov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
McCoy is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Umarov jumps into side control!
McCoy sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
McCoy keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
McCoy is trying to stand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McCoy is positioning himself well to prevent Umarov advancing to mount.
Umarov winds up and cracks McCoy with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

McCoy has one foot on Umarov's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
McCoy looks to throw the jab but Umarov is out of range.

Umarov tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
McCoy swings for the body but Umarov moves out of range.

and McCoy counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Umarov thinking.
McCoy digs a good hook to Umarov's body.
McCoy throws a jab but it's blocked by Umarov.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
McCoy is trying to improve his position.

Umarov tries for a kimura but McCoy is defending well.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Umarov landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.

Umarov drops an elbow to the side of McCoy's head.
McCoy wants to improve his position but Umarov is controlling well.

McCoy tries to roll over but Umarov keeps him under control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McCoy has hold of Umarov's hands but Umarov slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Umarov thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed McCoy's head.
Umarov throwing shots but McCoy is blocking nicely.
McCoy is trying to maintain the position but Umarov is very close to passing his half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
McCoy is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Umarov scores with a couple of nice shots.
Umarov is thwarting McCoy's attempts to control the position.

McCoy is not content to let Umarov control the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
McCoy shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Umarov defends it nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

McCoy throws a right hand that Umarov ducks under and follows up with a left that Umarov also avoids with ease.
McCoy dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Umarov throws a right and a left that both miss.
Umarov shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as McCoy sprawls well. McCoy wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Umarov gets slowly back to his feet.
McCoy changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
McCoy stuffs the takedown attempt from Umarov. Umarov gets slowly back to his feet.
McCoy tries to counter with a takedown but Umarov is quick to defend against it.
McCoy swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Umarov looks like he wants to counter punch here.

McCoy leaves Umarov with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Willie McCoy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Timur Umarov.

McCoy has picked Umarov up - he's going for a ride! McCoy dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Umarov has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but McCoy is on him like a limpet, forcing Umarov back against the cage.
McCoy lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
McCoy is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Umarov lands a nice uppercut.
McCoy goes for a takedown attempt but Umarov pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Umarov feints the counter takedown.
Umarov cracks McCoy with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
McCoy waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Umarov.
Umarov fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but McCoy avoids it really well and circles away.

and Umarov counters with a takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McCoy sneaks back into half guard.
McCoy is looking to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Timur Umarov will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Umarov slips a jab and a cross from McCoy.
Umarov uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from McCoy.
McCoy throws a right and a left that both miss.
McCoy connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Umarov momentarily.
Umarov fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Willie McCoy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No luck for Umarov with that takedown attempt.

McCoy takes a swing at Umarov's ribcage but misses.
As McCoy backs off Umarov throws a huge counter combo but McCoy manages to avoid it all.
Umarov uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
McCoy throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Umarov.

Umarov is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Umarov controls McCoy momentarily but McCoy frees himself.

McCoy passes Umarov's left leg - he's now in half guard.
McCoy missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
McCoy passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Umarov!

Umarov wants to get back to his feet.
McCoy throwing strikes here but Umarov is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
McCoy has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Umarov's face.

Umarov takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
McCoy throws a wild left hand from mount and Umarov manages to wriggle his way back to half guard.
McCoy trying to mount his opponent but Umarov defends it.
Umarov is refusing to be controlled, as McCoy sits in half guard.
Umarov keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Umarov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. McCoy is working away from the top position though.
McCoy stalling away here and it's allowed Umarov to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

McCoy seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Timur Umarov is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Willie McCoy showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Umarov has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
