PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Houston Glass (ranked 9146 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jozek Novak (ranked 9503 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Houston Glass!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jozek Novak!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Arvi Lind and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Novak drives through with a takedown into Glass's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Glass has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Novak is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Glass decides to pull guard.
Glass throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Glass bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Novak's guard.


Glass gets to his feet. Novak looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Novak shoots in and gets a takedown into Glass's guard.

Glass has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Novak has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Novak breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Glass jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Novak fails in his attempt to clinch.
Glass swats away the attempt to clinch by Novak.
Glass attempts a counter takedown but Novak avoids it well and moves away.

Novak fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Glass to the ground. Novak is now in Glass's guard.

Glass is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Novak presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Novak has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Novak looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Glass manages to pull guard.
Glass could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Glass looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Novak connects with a couple of short punches.
Novak is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Novak wants to get up but he can't break Glass's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Novak trying to control but Glass is working from the bottom.
Glass trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Glass lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Novak had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Glass defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Novak not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Glass has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Novak is proving hard to escape from.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Glass gets to his feet - Novak follows without any prompting.

Novak gets a takedown into half guard.
Glass might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Glass wants to control but Novak is keeping busy.

Novak is looking for a kimura but Glass is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Novak to get the leverage.
Novak tries to stand but can't do so whilst Glass controls his leg.
Glass keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Novak takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Novak tries to pass the half guard into mount. Glass knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Houston Glass dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Novak closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Glass to the mat! Glass manages to get full guard.
Glass keeping moving, preventing Novak from controlling successfully.
Novak must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Glass pulls Novak in close to prevent any damage.
Glass is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Glass is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Novak sees it coming and defends easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Novak is doing well to control the position and prevent Glass from advancing to side control.
Glass working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Glass is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Novak wants to get back to his feet.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Novak can do anything to dispel that myth.
Glass wants to control but Novak is keeping him busy.

Glass prevents Novak from improving his position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Glass gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Glass pushes Novak off and scrambles back to his feet.
Glass doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Glass wants to sweep here but Novak controlling him for the moment.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Glass wants to stand and escape but Novak is having none of it.

That was a close second round but I would say that Houston Glass will probably get the nod.

Glass manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Novak manages to get himself to full guard.

Houston Glass overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Novak. Glass shrugs it off though.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Glass enables Novak to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Glass manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Novak wanted to stand there but Glass had control of the position.
Novak throws a big right hand that misses.
Glass tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Glass has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Novak can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Novak is in close to Glass's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Novak throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and Glass decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Novak's guard.
Novak is trying to control the position but Glass postures up.
Glass keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Novak's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Novak wants to stand and escape but Glass is having none of it.

Glass decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Novak lands a slapping body shot.

Novak closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Glass's guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Glass manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Glass jumps guard but Novak turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Glass tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Novak smiles and moves away.

Novak gets in close and instigates a clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Houston Glass.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Glass, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
