PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wabricio Ferdum (ranked 4320 p4p, 458 weight class) and Optimus Prime (ranked 9022 p4p, 694 weight class). Ferdum comes to the cage accompanied by PARIS - the devil made me do it. Prime has chosen Rich Boy - Boy Looka Here as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Optimus Prime has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wabricio Ferdum!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 40 - 33 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Optimus Prime!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Gregory Folan and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ferdum shoots in and gets a takedown into Prime's guard.
Ferdum throws a strike but Prime rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Prime is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Prime's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Ferdum has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Prime can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Prime postures up.
Prime must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Ferdum is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Prime has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ferdum is working away from the top position though.
Ferdum scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Ferdum not doing much here.

Ferdum is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Prime doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ferdum.

Ferdum looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Prime keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ferdum seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Ferdum is looking to advance position but Prime won't allow it.
Prime is not content to let Ferdum control the position.
Ferdum missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Ferdum sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Ferdum winds up and cracks Prime with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Ferdum trying to control the action but Prime is working from the bottom.
Prime is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ferdum working Prime over with strikes.

Prime is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Ferdum scores with a couple of nice shots.
Ferdum takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Ferdum controlling the action here.
Prime is refusing to be controlled, as Ferdum sits in half guard.
Ferdum thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Prime's head.
Prime avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Ferdum.
Ferdum passes to side control.
Ferdum has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Check out the look on Ferdum's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Ferdum thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Ferdum grinds an elbow into Prime's temple.

Prime is working to avoid the ground and pound but Ferdum connects with a decent elbow.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ferdum lands an elbow.
Ferdum sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Prime is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Ferdum is trying to move to mount but Prime reverses beautifully and ends up in Ferdum's guard.
Prime looks winded!

Ferdum working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Prime doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Ferdum is tightening it up a little... Prime has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Prime reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Prime taps out! Nice BJJ there by Ferdum!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Wabricio Ferdum!
Wabricio Ferdum seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
