PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bea Mason (ranked 3768 p4p, 83 weight class) and Lord Beerus (ranked 5316 p4p, 109 weight class). Beerus comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Judas by Fozzy kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bea Mason!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lord Beerus!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Beerus changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mason looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Mason struggling a bit here.
Beerus is looking to take a break and control but Mason is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mason wants to control but Beerus postures up.

Beerus swings around for an armbar but Mason sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Beerus's guard.

Beerus looking for a guillotine here but Mason defends easily.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Beerus avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Beerus is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Mason throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Beerus works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Mason tries to free his leg and advance position but Beerus is retaining full guard.
Beerus has Mason pulled in close to control his posture.
Beerus keeping full guard, as Mason tries to pass.
Beerus keeping moving, preventing Mason from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Beerus isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Mason stacks Beerus on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Mason!

Mason decides to stand up, so the ref orders Beerus to his feet.

Beerus looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Beerus fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mason sprawls well initially but Beerus persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Beerus is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Beerus is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mason is just riding it out for now. Beerus eventually gives up the hold.

Beerus goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Mason rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Beerus's guard! Nice work there by Mason!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Beerus working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mason doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mason manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Mason has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Beerus is proving hard to escape from.

Mason thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Beerus's head.

Mason wants to lay and pray for a moment but Beerus keeps working.

Mason is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Beerus doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mason.
Beerus is trying to maintain the position but Mason is very close to passing his half guard.

Mason seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Beerus does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Mason will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Beerus is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Mason is looking to control Beerus's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mason avoid being mounted?

Bea Mason overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Beerus is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Mason is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Beerus has his hands clasped together but Mason extends and breaks Beerus's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Mason.
